Track Day!

Am a new member of this club, have done some SCCA racing in a Spec Racer, and have a 2005 RX-8 with about 11000 miles on it. Am taking the RX-8 to Virginia International Raceway in a few weeks and will have a couple of track days. Could someone help with these questions?

- Does the RX-8 have an MPH limiter? If so, can we disconnect?
- Any easy tricks to boost the performance on the track, either power or handling
- Traction Control on the car: does it err on the side of "too slow", and what will I lose if I shut it off?
- Any other prep recomendations you can make?
- Any concerns (beyond normal) with a couple days of hard driving for this car?

Thanks in advance for your comments! Am looking forward for a little Zoom Zoom!

There isn't a limiter on the car. On most tracks you won't get near the top speed of the car. Road America or a 2 mi oval would be the exeptions.
Traction Control: Try it for a few laps on to get a feel for the car, after that turn it off and have fun.
The best mod is to get rid of the OEM Bridgestone Potenza tires. I like the Falken ST615's in 245/40X18.
There are many threads here about tires and brake pads. Start reading.

just the basics which you proabably know already
=good tyres at the right pressure (this is crucial)
=good brake pads
=high octane fuel
=take oil, tools, coolant, water, brake/clutch fluid, spare tyres (if you geta bit tail happy)
TIPS
=if your engines temp goes up, turn on the fan heater in the cabin(this helps to disperse the heat, itll be a sauna in there though)
=don't run with you a/c on
=tape over the seams in your body at the front eg. headlights, hood, (this helps to reduce drag)
=have your windows up (this is a safety precaution aswell as reducing drag)
=practice heel and toe downshifting
these are just my few tips...hope it helps!!

actually most clubs that have track days in the US require you to have the windows down

Keep your fuel tank at least 1/2 full or you may run into fuel pickup problems on fast lefthanders. You can read about the problem here on the forum. It's a known problem with the RX-8, but the problem is not unique to the RX-8, however.

Edit: BTW, I just came back from a 2-day MDA event at VIR and you will LOVE the track if you have never been there before. Amazing track, great facilities.
