WOW... What a story. I have a similar story and I understand as a owner of the car it is well worth saving the car of your dreams.

My sister car a 1995 Honda Civic EX 4-door were rear ended badly I mean worser than yours in 1999. I use to have the picture when it was totaled the trunk were smash into the rear seat bottom that's how bad it were. Had it repaired for $2500k. I bought the rear end from a junk yard in Los Angeles, CA and brought it down to Westminster, CA for the repair's. The guy did a wonderful job on it and got it painted.

The car were pass down to my mom so we had the car for awhile when it had 66k miles on it. Still run strong just recently replaced the radiator and a few hoses. The car has now 214k miles on it.
