Total Rx8 sales numbers?
I only found one recent post for March saying that Mazda sold about 3000 RX8's, do we know the totals? Mazda wanted to sell like 30K a year, how close are we?

This may be old information so I apologize if it's a repost, but I got this at the beginning of January from the horses mouth.
Year end 03,
43K RX-8's sold world wide,
27K RX-8's sold in the US,
That is 15K over scheduled predictions,
We all know what that means.

March was 2373, April was around 2200.
I did a search for April Sales and got this:

But dealers are the ones lowering the price, not Mazda. The dealers can't affect market share by their lonesome and I don't think they all got together to plan this or something.

Gigolo - something ain't right here. Where'd you get those numbers from? If the car was launched in July 03, that means they made the US yearly sales goal in six months, almost double. But according to current figures, 8s are selling at about 2300 p/m US which is a hair shy of the annual US goal. What is the worldwide sales goal anyway? And how is the 8 doing against its worldwide goal? The breakdowns on Mazda corporate don't provide this info.

Some areas are selling under sticker because cold winter climates slows sales and dealers are overstocked with 2004's. I don't think warmer climates are having any trouble getting MSRP.

2003s?! Was there a secret prerelease RX-8 that no one knew about?! J/k
As far as supply and demand, if that was really their strategy, then kudos to Mazda for being so ballzy (that's a technical term...) in a time of uncertainty about the market. Trying to create demand with supply, however, doesn't really work, except for the example previously mentioned that maybe they just want to get them on the road so that people know the car. That's one expensive strategy, giving cars away, especially for the dealers.
Also, I'd say if gaining market share is their goal, I don't think it'll work quite so easily. I think the RX-8 is too expensive to be the versatile, mass-produced, and widely sold car that some think it could be. I mean certainly the functionality and fun is there, but at $25k and most being closer to $30 after options, it's just out of too many people's price range.
Just my humble opinion.
But since I'm getting ready to buy one in a month... I have no problem with oversupply...

Roaddemon -- I live in sunny South Florida, and supplies here seem to be plentiful. I just picked up my 8 last night, and paid invoice price. One dealer I went to (Gunther Mazda) said the RX-8's turn-over every 10 days, except for the more "exotic" colors (yellow specifically). Somehow I don't believe him .....
