Top Speed RX-8 Automatic

Hi All
I am new here. I just purchased an RX-8 automatic. I was wondering if anyone new the top speed of this model. I see the information on the 6 speed (at 148 or so) all the time, but nothing on the auto. I know the auto is does not generate the rpm or hp of the 6 speed, but wondered if the top end was similar.

This existing thread (and probably others) is along the lines of what you are asking:

i can personally tell you i have gone just over 160 mph in my stock 6speed. the automatic has a lowly 197 hp, with worse torque. really.....i think the automatic version is pretty embarassing since the performance isn't half as good as the manual, even though in these cars the manual is more expensive....you should have gone with the manual. i think it is an absolute shame people drive sports cars with automatic transmissions, just plain embarassing. YOU WONT BE ABLE TO BEAT ANYBODY!

i think the redline of the automatic is just around 7500 rpm's which is still better than the competition.....but the answer is NO. the automatic version has only about 130 on top.

I think its pretty embarassing that you don't know the facts. Auto has more torque

Damn. Bankotsu beat me to it. The AT generates 164 lb-ft@5000RPM, compared to the MT's 159lb-ft@5500RPM.

Doug would appear to be a troll from the tone of his post... it may just be his youthful age, but I hate to disparage Polak by lumping all the young'uns together.

Doug, if you are going to be tooling around at those speeds, pay careful attention to your tires. If I recall correctly, they're only rated to 168mph. You're unlikely to recover from a blow out at those speeds, even on an open and flat road.

See Option's project Z33 crashed at 200mph and 200 mph 350-Z wreck

The video is gone now, but the crash was amazing considering how in control he was... slowed way down... right up until the time he came off the road and started rolling.
