Too buy an older rx8 or the 2009 one??

Ok so im debating. I can buy a used rx8 for around 15-18K but its the older model, and has from 50-80K miles on it or do you think its worth it too pay another 10K and get a 2009 Grand touring dealer demo rx8 with 6k miles ??? I prefer the looks of the new one but is the drive relatively the same on both?? How long do you think i could wait until i start seeing more used 2009 rx8's for reasonable prices???

How long do you plan on keeping the car? Look for a good 09' if your going to keep it for a long time.

Aren't the older ones just a hair faster than the 09's? Also, 15-18k for a used with 50-80k miles? That seems kinda steep IMO.

It all depends on the deal in my opinion. When I started the process I was in total agreement with everyone here all I was looking at where used. UNTIL the guy dropped the cash back incentives and other finagling. Along with the power of the internet I was blown away at what price I received new as compared to used. With warranty and mileage along with NOT worrying about how the previous owner treated the car it was a no brainier for me.

I always felt marketing was BS but, Zoom Zoom or maybe they need to change it to 'Zoom Twisties'.

I never knew driving could be this much FUN!
Good luck!

The 09's have gotten quite a few updates and as such they probably would be a better pick in my opinion. The RX8, even stock, is a really fun car so unless you have plans to do some heavy modifications right away I'm sure you'd be happy with an 09 and be able to do some stuff later.

If that is really your choice it is a no-brainer. Dude, for only 10k you are getting a car with 44-74k less miles, near full warranty versus almost none, a newer model with lots of improvements and a car you like better!

But I think you could could get a truely new RX-8 GT for that price.

Get the 09. Got the full warranty and it has a host of new items added that the '08s and before never had. Search and see-they did a lot of mods to the engine and of course the body work.
In addition shop around, build one one the mazda website and find a new one with no miles on it. There is a 4k rebate and you should be able to get it at invoice. Go to edmunds.com and price it out.
The peace and mind of having a new car vs. an old one. Who knows what problems it has and the number of miles is rather high.
The price is around $25.5 for a gt with no options. So add tax, licence, tag et al. Again 6k miles is a lot, unless he is giving quite a discount under the 25.5k.
Good luck.
I have a 09 gt with sunroof and I love it.

Hmm, on one hand you can get extra money for mods. But on the other, you'll get a more updated one with a slightly sexier body styling, not to mention you can build one to your liking. Well, in either case, $18k should get you a pretty low mileage one, I'd say around 20-40k miles. I've been seeing 50k+ miles around $14k and below.

Get 09+

Dealer demo? that means it has been beaten to death. I wouldnt pay more than 19K for it. Consider you can get a brand new one with 1-10 miles for maybe 28K.

You'll be saving a ton of money, plus buying a new car you're paying a lot of extra money just for having "new" in front of it.

Edit: I'd try to get them to go down on the price for the used first, looking back on that...that's a lot of money to be paying for something with so money miles on it, I got mine with 18k miles for around that price. = /

ya the thing about used is i dont know how badly the owner beat up the car, if bought mine brand new there is no worries, i would take it easy for first week to break it in ,then have a a little fun later. this is random but where can i learn to drive a manual transmission car?? I have drove a couple relatives with stick, but when i go to test drive they are always stick and i dont want to screw up the car, i have too much respect towards it ! is driving a stickshift jeep or SUv anything like driving an Rx8?

I second that. I was dead strung on buying a used car after posting in this forum about it. "You'll definitely save money by getting a used car". After extensive research I have come to conclude that getting a new car is the better way to go. I didn't even cross my mind till I read this thread.

For one thing, I was scared shitless, excuse my choice of words, when I kept seeing engine failure threads popping up. Visors snapping off every three seconds? I dunno buddy, but I really don't want to deal with that. I don't mean that it doesn't happen in the newer models but you'd have a full warranty for it.

I don't know what I'd do if I bought a used car and it kept breaking down on me while I'm counting down the couple of days left on the warranty. Next thing I know I'd be shelling out my prized pocket lint to get me a new engine because I no longer have warranty to cover it.

Also I'm sure that most of the RX owners baby their cars, but I know for a fact, don't even try to argue with me on this one, that there are at least two or three people out there that will mess it up real good and then sell it off as if it was in "immaculate" or "showroom" condition. They would do a good job covering it up too and you wouldn't realize till you got halfway home and the car just farts on you.

I'm sure I exaggerated a bit, but it pretty much says what the ****** says, it's a lot more fun driving a car that has no worries to it.

Research your buy. Shop around. Don't impulse buy. Clean 04/05s with 30-50k miles should run 12-14k MTX from private party. Learn to drive stick. The automatic is a good car, but not the same car.

Sticks aren't hard to learn. Driving the relative's car should teach you the basics.

I bought used and now have over 90k+ on mine with no problems. If your worried go buy one of those warrenty things from us fidalis or whatever. I will probably buy one once I hit my 100k, and I think they are around 2k for it, but look into it more as I'm sure someone around here has to know more about it.

I've seen it on fox news and they had rusty wallace doing the commerical. I also think I checked the BBB and they were on it too. It sucks that everything out there anymore is a scam, thank god the internet doesn't lie.

I have been thinking about this also... my 8 has 102k is running fine and I have had it for 4 years, but I would like to get another one next year after my daughter graduates high school. I would either get an '08 40th or a used '09 GT (really like the Black Mica with the red interior)...
