I have to agree with him. Ive spent a lot of time on the track. Ive used hancook, continental, michelin, good year, yoko, and many others. Ive driven over 30 cars on tracks. My father was a global certified master mechanic who worked for hendricks in the early 90's so when I was 14 on I was blessed with being able to drive many different cars. Continentals while highly rated tend to dry rot faster. Good year are only good on the high end tires. I would never use a hancook tire on a car I cared about. I'm not a big fan of yokohama either they dont last past 20,000 miles for my driving style. My porsche and my rx8 both have michelins on them, and I usually get 30,000 plus miles from them. here in dallas we get flash thunderstorms, flooding, everything from 105 degree 20% humidity to 95 degrees and flooding, and in the winter it snows every couple years.

Another thing you should consider is how the tire is built. Look at when a tire is balanced how many or how much weight they are putting on the wheel. All my michelin tires have 0 weights added to the wheel. Granted I do a high low alignment on the wheel to tire bead but still. Michelin's almost never need weights to balance out the tire. BF Goodrich is great on trucks, but I don't recommend them on a car. Your best bet, and I know its 50 dollars more a tire is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/45 18. they run you about 200 dollars a tire. They are extremely good tires though, and you will love the handling as well as safety of the tire.

Good Year Eagle GT's
Great Grip, excellent predictability.-and pretty cheap.
I run these in the cold monts, (I use the star specs for summer) and I'm very impressed at how well the keep up w/ the star specs.

Buy from a local independent Tire dealer. I'd never recomend a place like costco. I don't recomend supporting stores like that for anything. Why is everything made in China? - Because of stores like that and Americans who support them.

I went through the trouble of handholding you, moron. Get with the program. And finish your damn high school, you stupid lazy kid with lack-of-attention-to-detail syndrome.

I gotta admit i ran the SPTs they r great for daily and some moderate canyon drive. I even ran them twice at tracks jus for kicks. Yea they can get greasy very quick but its only when u really push the tires to the limit. I dont think ur daughter is gonna b doin any track events. Im currently running sumitomo jus cuz i got em as a steal and i decided to give em a try. IMO dont get sumitomo tires for ur RX8. They r only great on EVOs and STIs.

Once you get some miles on these they will become noisy, bad in the wet, and you'll wanna peel them off eventually so the treadwear is utterly meaningless.

Direzza Star Specs are very quiet and smooth riding for max perf tires.

Before my RX-8 I had a modified 2000 Miata. Bought Sumitomos because they were cheap. Thanks to those tires I actually managed to spin out a Miata!

I will never again even CONSIDER Sumitomo tires for an RWD car.

I agree with Krazed, I have had 3 sets of Toyo T1R's and they are great in all weather and they last forever.

I haven't had to buy tires for the rx8 yet but on my old car I always bought Kumho Ecsta ASX's they are pretty cheap at about $110 a tire(on discount tire, not sure what they are other places) and I got great traction in dry, wet, or snow. I lived in colorado so at times there was some good snow to test them in. I loved those tires.

Of course the price depends on what size wheels you have, I am looking at 18's now and those are $150 a piece, rather than the nearly $110 for 16's.

Direzzas quiet? Me thinks not. Very noisy after about 5k. Terrible in the wet and a disaster in any kind of snow.

The Dunlops are ok in the wet for a dry weather high performance tire. They are not good in the wet if you don't know what you are doing. I wouldn't put my daughter on them and ask her to drive in the rain.. an all season tire would be much better. There, happy?
