Tire Recommendations

Hello,
I have a 2005 RX8 looking for some recommendations regarding some good all season performance tires.
Car will see rain and sun, no snow.
The Feedback I have been getting from people/dealerships regarding recommended brands are the Goodyear all seasons and the Dunlop Signature.

Any thoughts?

not sure what your budget is. but i just bought some Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires. (i bought them from tirerack.com for $250 each) they were ranked 1st in it's category and they are perfect for what your looking for. they are extreme summer performance tires and have PHENOMAL dry/ wet traction. the wet traction is freaking amazing. it's like the water isnt even there. they grip the corners so well and are very very quiet when cruising on the highway. the only thing thats bad about them, is they wear out fast. i've been on them for about 5K miles and have about 3/4 of the tread left. (mind you, i drive very aggressive and had about 3 track days). I have no regrets about purchasing these tires. trust me,they wont dissappoint you.

go check them out at tirerack.com

That's a pretty good suggestion.

Don't bother with all-seasons unless u need longer wear. They excel at NO seasons.
Well, I'm quite happy with the Conti ExtremeContact DWS even though my car doesn't see snow either, but the longer treadlife and quiet ride made it worth to get these and I got them quite cheap which was nice. Performance on dry and wet roads is very good too.

Those are good for snow, or for your case longer wear. But I wouldn't recommend them for Mt. Tamalpais or PCH runs. Don't know what the OP exactly wants but there's nothing worse than turning up the wick and finding that your tires won't dance.

I don't disagree with anything that has been said on this thread, but if the OP is looking for a cheaper option I suggest Kumho Ecsta SPT. They aren't the stickiest tire out there but they are forgiving, and they are quiet and wear well. Get them in 245/40R18 for a chunkier look while you're at it.

+1 for Conti DWS as a budget tire. They served me pretty well my first winter. I'm about 1.5 years on them and they need to be replaced. I did take a road trip to Maryland from Kansas.

Speaking of Tire Rack (as Monchie just did), when shopping for tires nothing beats an evening poring over the rating charts at Tire Rack. Lots of objective data, lots of subjective opinions from other customers.

Direzza Star Spec are fantastic tires. I'm also very happy with Bridgestone RE760 Sport, they should be slightly cheaper but in the same ballpark.

I loved my kumhos but two of them had the sidewall just get destroyed way before the tires life was done. I searched inside my wheel well and couldn't find a single thing inside it that could hurt the tire, and I have heard of other people having the sidewalls separate on them. They were kumho ecsta asx's though.

I recently had to replace two tires because of hitting something in the road and I went with goodyear eagle gt's, great tire so far. Superior to the dunlop 2050s that came stock on my rx8 dry at half the price and in the wet I expect them to be worlds better. The dunlops were like ice skates in the rain it was horrible.

half the people who own them cant drive the rx8 to its potential with the stock tires let alone anything really agressive.
The money you'd save on average tires would pay for track time where you would really learn the potential of the car and have a lot of fun.

Quick Notes..

If you will track, look for something that does NOT have large blocks around the outside, and try to get under 200 tread wear. They will actually last longer. Compare what a Goodrich G-Force looks like to the V-12. Then imagine tearing each of those individual edge blocks off, a little piece at a time, because they are isolated and coming in from a dozen laps to see almost an inch of the tire missing.....

I have the hankook ventis V12 and love them. They were $133 a piece at tire rack, and do great in the rain (AA).

The more track oriented ones are only A in the rain, but put more rubber on the ground. If you do not go all season, but get summer, remember they SUCK in freezing weather until they get warm.

Kuhmo Ecsta XS is my vote.

I have S.Drives on my other car and they are excellent also.

^ +1 on the Hankook Ventus V12!

Some reviews are bad for this tire, because the owners are shy to pump em up to at least 46 hot.
