Still think $500.00 at dealer is way expensive, see person in Calgary got $250.00 Yes, 15% in the rear is dark, but it's not really all that bad. Think I have a pic around here somewhere of before and after, I'll try to post it here tomorrow or send it to you via PM so you can get a better look. well...and to see my brother that lives in Jacksonville, but the tinting in Florida is much more competitive and the beaches are nice :) |
There are tons of tint shops around...I live 2 minutes from one, and got it done there. 20% all around isn't too dark. Backing up at night isn't bad either. Know why not? Because 99% of the time I'm backing up I have my foot on the brake. The brake lights help a lot.

Leesha,
While metal tint MAY only effect the lower portion of the AM band where the radio is concerned, it can cause a lot of interference other places as well.. Whether you use a phone or a portable GPS system in your car, you’re going to want the radio waves these devices depend on to be able to pass through the window tint without interference. To that end, look for a film without metal in it for at least the back window because it is made without metals, it does not interfere with any radio signals like GPS or cell phones. and yes............sometimes the radio signals. My two cents. Do a search on the net and you will see people have varying opinions, but for the most part, it may not be so much about the radio as other devices. Dave  |
SHIT> I got pulled over ALL 3 times in 3 different cars when I tinted my front windows here in Michigan.... .
With my luck, I just tinted the back ones.... I cannot pay $200 ticket everytime I get pulled over... |

Here's a shot of before and after that I dug up. Yes, the lighting is different and I tried to find two pictures of roughly the same angle, but not much luck!
15% on the rear and 30% on the sides. I didn't rename the files, so it's putting the after shot first and I'm too lazy to go fix them, but you'll get the idea. |

Yay for tint! I got Llumar tint which takes away 99% of UV rays, it will save your interior.
Just do it!! |
I got an amazing tint for my 8. Darkest legal all the way around, and a visor strip in front. 150 for everything. It looks amazing and makes the car look a lot nicer. It also has a lifetime warranty. Go for it.

Make sure you know the tinting law of your state before you decide how dark to tint your window. I got nailed 3 times in 2 days by cops and the last cop that pulled me over got so piss he said he would come and help me take the tint off! I got so annoy with cops that today I almost lost my temper with him. He ordered me to get back in my car after he saw that I was getting a bit hot. My tint came when I bought the car and even when the window sticker list that it came with the car cops don't care. He wrote me a ticket today after 3 warnings. One cop told me to show the window sticker and I would be OK. Well, it is annoying to keep getting pull over and get nervous everytime you see a cop...I took mine off this afternoon but left the rear window and back window on. It is sad. I love the way my car look with tint but it doesn't worth keep it with all those hassels. MN law said 50% or more is OK. Mine check in at 33%. I am going to drive my car to the police station tomorrow and show him that the tint is off and hope that he will throw away the ticket.

Ok, here are the tint pics.
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/backtint.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1.../fronttint.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...e/sidetint.jpg (This is my favorite new car picture thus far :) ) I think it looks good. I'm not sure how good the stripe on the front looks, but it is very practical. I drive during sunrise and sunsets, and it is in just the right spot to block out the sun... so practicality outweighs looks... but I think it looks pretty good. Definitely makes the car look a little sportier, IMO. |

I will find somewhere in Canada... Toronto, Ontario. Does anyone know where??? |
What tint % do you have?
|
30% on the sides, 15% on the back... the front strip is at least 15% maybe more... no legislation on that.
And thank you for the kind words, Leesha :). |

And thank you for the kind words, Leesha :). Funny.........we have the same tint %'s, but it looks darker on a V-red than on a Ti-Gray. See the first photo of these two, https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...40704#poststop |

True...........mine is listed somewhere in this thread above. I'm too lazy to put it all in again. And it's 11:30pm on Sunday night with work at 7:00am........ugh! |
I've got 20% all the way around, 5% strip. All illegal, except the strip. It's a five inch strip, which is legal in Louisiana.

As RI tint laws are pretty brutal, I can only do 20% on the rear windows and nothing on the sides/front. Has anyone else done just the rear? How does it look and does it help keep the interior temps down?
Thanks |
20% all the way around for a year now. 2 RI cops have stopped me (a trooper & a Johnston cop) and neither mentioned the tint at all. As long as you roll both windows down and are nice to 'em you should be fine.
|
Has it made a big difference in the temps inside the car? My car is bb and even on the few warm days we've had I've had to use the anemic AC. Since I'm doing the AP pulley, the AC is only going to get worse and I figure tint might help offset the issue. What are your thoughts?
|
hhmmm. The combo of tint + a $5 sun shade for the windshield works great while parked. When driving the temp is only controlled by open windows or AC, for the most part. The tint helps some in the spring & fall as long as the sun is not directly in front & blasting through the windshield.
So I guess the answer is no, tint doesn't make a big difference when you really need it to. Was it you that I was behind on RT 37 yesterday @5.30? |
I had to rethink my reply ^. I guess my opinion on how much tint controls cabin tent is invalid. I got the 8 in March 06, and tinted the windows by mid April, so I never really experienced the really warm weather w/o tint.
:dunno: |
My SB8 with 35% ceramic tint
For anyone who is curious as to what 35% all around looks like, I took some pictures to post here on the forums:

I have 35% on my driver/passenger windows and 20% in the back wings and rear window. I wish I had done 20% all around and may actually get the front doors changed. I paid ~$200 US to have mine done by an independent shop. It is illegal in Washington State to have anything more than 35% on a car on any window. SUV’s and trucks have special exemptions from these rules – The driver/passenger windows can be maximum 35% tint and the rest of the windows can be as dark as you’d like to go. That said I’ve never met anyone who has received a ticket for windows tinted beyond the limit. |
Thank you soooooo much everyone for the help... :cuddle: I just love it!!
I got my tint today. Sorry bout the night pics...will post more... Lifetime warranty, 16% all around, Metallic. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...a_023/Tint.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w..._023/Tint1.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w..._023/Tint0.jpg |

I've got the metallic tint...35% all around, and it didn't have any effect on my factory navigation system at all...also haven't noticed any changes in my cell phone or radio signal. So I wouldn't worry about that.
