Cool Time for new tires...

I have been using Kumho ecsta. Its time to replace them again. However, this time I may want to consider other costlier tires also. what are your suggestions for getting other tires (regarding ride quality, life of tire) etc?

Saying you were on "Kumho Ecstas" is the same thing as saying "Bridgestone Potenzas" -- there are lots of sub-models of each. But, I'm guessing you had the SPTs.

How about taking full advantage of the car's potential and putting on something like the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs - they're comparable to the RE01r, but have a stiffer sidewall. Or for some cost savings over those you can pick up the Sumitomo HTRZ III, while moving up a few notches in the handling department over the Korean crappola.

Toyo T1R's. Great treadwear. Pretty decent handling in dry & wet.

Haha, you are not going to be able to make a decision here. Too many options. I like the Toyo Proxis 4 for an all season tire. I think for us to offer more refined suggestions, we need to know a little more about you driving habits and location. Do you want all season, performance, high milage or price?

Micheln Pilot Sport is expensive but since cost may not be a factor, I'd look them over.

I second this motion - I went through my Potenzas in 15kmi (the guys in Atlanta will remember my... belts showing) and these Toyo T1R's do the trick nicely on Chicago streets in wet/dry!

I'd 2nd the Mich Pilot Sports, they are a bit on the expensive side, but the ride is very comfy & quiet

I think Kuhmo ASX is what I got. I wanted a decent performance all-season when I moved to CO. I think that the Kuhmo's are a excellent daily tire for the money.

I have had a great experience with the g-force KDW NTs. They are mid price among the tires so I think they are a great value. I was able to get a set at $160 a tire at Discount Tires.

So far I have had them for 5,000 miles and no noise problems. That is the main thing you will see people complain about for this tire. The wet traction is excellent and the corner stability is very very good.

The original Bridgestone Potenza's on my '04 will be due for replacement in another 10k miles or so, and I'm actually looking forward to them wearing out; they are NOISY!

I've been considering the Kumho's, but I'm concerned about tire noise. What would be a good brand choice that offers decent handling with reduced noise?

That is what I have on presently. They have been a very good tire for dry and are excellent in the wet as well. I did not have a chance to run them in the show this last winter but I wanted them just in case I did have to deal with the occasional frozen crap.

They were very good in the mountains and never gave me any unpredicted results. Driving touring laps at Road Atlanta, I found them to be a very competent all season tire. They did talk a lot when the driving got aggressive. Turn 7 they squeal like little girls but that's OK, they were happy.

If there is a negative to them, I'd say that they did wear out what I would consider a little prematurely. However, I did like them so much, I think I was more aggressive with my driving.

They were very price competative though and I could purchase them two or three times for the cost of the Micheln Pilot Sport. I will have to look them over again and compair to the Toyo Proxis 4.

All I'm looking for in my new tires is at least the same amount of grip as the OEM potenzas, and a better tread life. I want to get at least 20K miles out of my next set of tires, ideally 30k.

I have Goodyear F1s on mine, and they seem to be a solid street tire, technically being all-season. Have 12K on them, and expect more than 15K with some autocrossing, car control clinics, burnouts, etc. Until the autocross "drifting" though, there was virtually no wear.

Probably going to look into Kumho SPTs next though for price/performance.

The RE01's rock. But are soft and wear out quick. But they stick, REAL GOOD
My Falken 615's were great
the Hankook k104's were a DEAL and get great traction. (on My Work Wheels)
The Nitto Invo's I have now are great commuter tires. Super traction, but a little soft in the sidewall. But they are silent on the road. So great for commuting. (Stock wheels)

Has anyone tried a non shaved Toyota PROXES R1R for street? Wonder how they would wear? Probably not long.

As it was asked before, it all depends on what you are looking for on a tire.

If you want great ride quality, low noice, excelent traction (both dry and wet), I would recomend Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

If you don't care about ride quality, noice, but want superb traction and control, I would recomend the Yokohama's ADVAN Neova A07. But this tire is not recomended to be used below 40 degrees F.
