Thinking of buying an rx8, have a couple questions.
Hey guys. Right now I am looking at a 2004 rx8, velocity red, with all options. The question is this, The car has 90,000 miles, and had an engine replacement done at 57,000 miles in December of 2006, which I am told by the dealer was the same engine that got put into the 2007 models. As you guys know the engine has 10,000 miles more of warrenty left. The rx is an automatic. What do you guys think? I didn't know how the engines were in the 2007 and how long I should expect this to last? Thanks in advance.

the 2007 will have the 6 port engine
as far as longevity -- who knows its anybody's guess. get service records and all other maintenance if you can. Find out if you can why the first engine failed. A carbon locked engine will tell you that the last owner(s) did not know how to operate the rotary.

I think they're BS'ing you cuz if they put a 6 port engine they would of also had to replace the transmission from a 4 speed to 6 speed double check that.by the way I'm selling my black 06 black automatic rx8

It is pretty strongly advised to not buy a 2004-2005, especially with those kinds of miles plus an engine that has already been rebult... I'd give it a pass unless its really inexpensive - how much is it? It might be worth a look if it is under $10k but anymore than that you can start to look at later years.

thanks so far guys! They are asking 9,500 for the car. In its defense it does have every available option, plus some that the guy spent on upgrades and appearance things. There is also another one I am looking at that is the same price range that has 63,000 miles. I would love to buy an 06 or newer but that seems out of my price range.

I'd consider it since you can basically buy it outright and own it. Drive it and you aren't going to lose as much money on it. You could buy a 2007 with 30k miles and before you know it will also be worth $9.5k

^^well put it in this way, if they are talking about there car then they are concerned about it ,or you can go buy a car that the owner does not even care about the things that are happening to there car and dont talk about it at all,

I just picked up an 04 with 38k miles on it for 10k. It has the Bose sound system, sunroof, wing, etc. Its just missing nav and a disc changer from what I can tell.
Keep looking - you're car will show up eventually.
(As a side note, the only reason I got an 04 was because I actually did get a service record and the guy had the recall work done as soon as they came out - he also had all maintenance and everything done at a Mazda dealer).

My two cents, that car has seen its best days already, look elsewhere. I know we all have to have a price, but if you could go up a couple grand, and hopefully find someone who hasn't beaten the crap out of the car, you'll be much happier. good luck. cheers.
