Thinking of buying an RX-8
So for a long time now I've wanted an RX-8, finally I think I will be able to purchase one! Basically my requirements for the RX-8 were that it had to be manual transmission, and preferably black. Well I found one, and not to far from where I live only about 30 miles
I came here today to seek your opinion of this car
2004 Mazda RX-8
87,570 Miles
Brilliant Black
Clean carfax- no accidents, nothing bad, just regular maintenance
Navigation System- No Navigation DVD
Bose System
Minor cosmetic damage- scratches here and there not to bad but noticeable
Drives good

link to car- 2004 Mazda RX-8 NEW TIRES HTD 995, $9,995 - Cars.com
The only problem is they're asking $9,995. which is $320 above blue book, but being kinda a money saver I bought the Blackbook. It says its only worth at auction like 6500. What should I pay, they have been sitting on it for a while the salesman said. I've heard through a couple friends they've accepted $8500 for it. What would be a good offer?

It's too much. Just for warranty purposes, I would be looking at 2006 and above model years with less than 100k that are still covered. First thing I would do is read this if you have not.

As we tell everyone, get a compression test from the Mazda dealer before purchasing the car, this one time expense can potentially save you a lot of issues and lots of money in the future.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
It's a 2004...so the 8yr/100k warranty is gone! It will be up to you if any problems persist. The safest thing to do if you really want to get that car is to get a compression test on the engine and see how it goes. Basically, its on your own after that, unless you get a warranty from the dealer your buying the car from.
P.S. If the dealer accepted $8500 before, then i guess you could get it with that price...good luck!

The navigation disk isn't cheap from what I remember (maybe check ebay) and as everyone has mentioned, get a compression test or there may be a $4k bill if the engine craps out later.

i just looked at the warranty history, and Mazda didn't replace any engines, so its probably the original. its funny, it got spark plugs and a zoom zoom @48,000miles (the last time it saw a dealership), and the claim was denied by Mazda
it had all the recalls except MSP16, and the clutch pedal and engine warranty extensions are expired.
car looks nice, but its not under warranty for anything anymore, so caveat emptor!
BTW i would make the navigation DVD part of the sale...

As far as your purchase price mileage helps a little, but 10k is seriously over priced which would be why its been sitting. 8500 maybe but i seriously doubt rx8 values have gone up over the last year. If i were to buy my car now i probably wouldn't offer more than 7k, maybe 7500 but mines well over 100k miles.
