Thinking about getting a RX8

I know there have been many other post like this and I have look at them but I have more specific questions. I am about to go look at a 04 with 100,00 miles on the body and 25,000 on the motor. It has Racing beat exhaust and Tein Springs. Is it worth my time to look at? and if it is what kind of questions should i ask him?

Thanks,
Gavin

Certainly it's worth a look. Even though the engine has been rebuilt, the biggest thing to consider is getting a compression test. Other things that will no doubt need doing will be a new set of coils, leads and plugs as it's unlikely they have been done in 25k miles since the rebuild and its generaly recommended they are done every 30k or so.

2004 Mazda RX8 GT 6-Speed

That is the car. Is that a fair price in your opinion?

From the ad- Spark plugs, ignition coils and wires recently changed at Mazcare. Compression test was recently done at Mazcare as well and numbers are excellent, very strong motor. I have paperwork for all of this.

Good news and answers the questions I raised. Looks like a pretty good car then. I'm from the UK so cant be acurate about the value, a UK car would be much cheaper but prices are silly here, it certainly looks ok.

Thanks for the help. The only concern i have left is about the clutch. With 100k on the car the clutch must need to be replaced relatively soon. Is that a big procedure on this car or not?

Its not really any worse than any other similar car to be honest. Being a conventional front engine, rear wheel drive makes it easier than alot of front wheel drive cars. Worth asking if it was done certainly, a decent specialist would have probably done it as a matter of routine when the engine was out but I cant speak for a main dealer! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You know that you are out of warranty on this car. Even though it has a reman engine, does not mean it will last another 100k...

Anyway, if this is the one you like and the only thing you can afford and cannot find anything else, then just get a compression test done before you signed that dotted line...good luck!

I think you should go buy that car and enjoy the drive back to Atlanta. The ad you posted "looks" like a nice car, but I would buy Alt's if I were in the Market. Not to mention you get 20,000 less miles!

I would be surprised if the clutch wasn't replaced when the engine was done (should have been since it would have just been parts cost). Clutch job at Mazcare is about $1200 from what they told me.

I had my car inspection and they had a detailed handout. I would ask the owner for it. They covered everything.
