Things to watch out for..

Just to start things off let me say this, I am a diesel tech and am 19. I have owned 12 new diesels in the past three years and now am going to give the RX8 a shot.

i made a deposit on an 04 RX8 Auto today. it only has 30k miles on it, grand touring package with red/black leather, sunroof, spoiler, blah blah.

what is there to watch out for on this car? it has the 100k mile warranty.

I have the same car with 37K on it. I would just make sure all the "TSB" be completed and it had new spark plugs, coils, wires, air filter, basic 30K service. Mine has never let me down . We get a 8 year 100k engine warranty from Mazda.

I would look out for the 04 autos actually.

The engine core is warrantied for 100k. bumper to bumper and powertrain are less. you are out of bumper to bumper. Not sure about powertrain.

Keep the oil topped off. don't be afraid of the red line. It likes being driven near or at the redline. You'll like driving it at or near the redline.

Make sure your engine has the latest ECU firmware, make sure no water or condensation is in the tail lights. Coils, sparkplugs, and plug wires are getting to the point where they may be starting to wear out.

Coils and plugs may not be included in 30k service. Find out what was done.

Water in the tail lights is a result of an arrogant engineer or a penny pinching bean counter.

Being that your a diesel owner, DON't, pump diesel in an 8, that just might warrant a new motor I would think. could cause unecessary expenses.

At 30k it might be a reman for a AT honestly, check the front cover housing if there is a blue/silver stamp to the right of the alternator bolt along the side then its been replaced. I swear I have never seen so many engines in that state that have been destroyed due to flooding....and thats not engine flooding its people driving the car through floods. Enigne life is shorter on the AT but thats mostly due to the driver not getting the RPM's up, rev it to redline or around every day or so but eventually it will go if it already has 30k on it. Enjoy it otherwise.

yea don't fall into the same trap i did. I paid $16.5k a year ago and got a horrible deal. She's been an amazing car with no mechanical problems..but she's only worth about 12k atm.
