Exclamation Things that could be better

OK...we've had a "things you love about the RX-8" thread. Let's try one about improvements you would suggest.

After owning mine for 2 months now, there is very little that I would change (except for more power...we might all say that).

There is one thing, though, that makes my RX-8 driving experience less enjoyable that it might be: The placement of the brake pedal.

It is too far to the left!!

In fairness...this is the first standard I have driven in a VERY long time. Perhaps the placement is typical of all. But it seems like I have to twist my foot every time I use the brake. After awhile, it actually starts to give me leg cramps...especially when driving in stop-and-go traffic.

Ideally, I think the brake pedal should be right-of-center for max comfort. As it is, it actually looks a little LEFT of center.

I have two legs; and they rest naturally, left and right. I don't have a center leg!! (at least not one I can talk about here).

The user interface on the navigation system in our car is so bad, the system is practically unusable. You have to be really, really lost to want to invest the five minute or more it takes to enter an address.

1). Rattles...
2). The seat warmer switches are just south of the gearbox. Really annoying.
3). The rotary accent on the seats can hurt.
4). Brakes could stop squeeking sooner or later
5). Taller 6th gear...
6). Stronger paint. I can't get my swirls out, and there's more than enough paint chips.

what do you keep getting caught in those rotary accents?

Nevermind.

For me, I had a rattle that disappeared, but the squeling brakes bug me. Otherwise, I'd like to see auto climate control.

Thats it.

The only beef I have is with the paint, other than that it couldn't get any better.

Yeah the seat warmer switches and the break squeal are real annoyances. So far no rattles or issues with paint chips.

Just ask my wife. She's at just the right height that when I mash the accelerator, her head whips back and hits the rotary seat accent. She'd learned quickly to keep her head back until after 2nd gear.

Also, the paint blows. Paint chips sucked on my BB. And the color choices leave me going, "wuh?". The green was OK, this new blue that's almost aqua... no thanks. The 1st shinka looks changes depending on light. If you're up close it looks good, if you're distant and in medium light, looks like poo. If in dark light, it's basically black. I like the new color for the shinka tho.

Customer service is a dealer thing. I have really great customer service at my dealer, sorry to hear that your dealer/service dept sucks.

squealing brakes
seat warmer control buttons (keep turning them on with arm)
front cup holders (useless- needs new positioning)
torque (just a lil more please)

I started a thread like this a while back. Here

How short are you? I'm 5'8'' and when I lean back my head does not hit the rotor.

Anyways, things I would add:
1. Electronic rear windows
2. Rattles
3. Auto lights
4. Bigger trunk opening
5. Deeper cup holders to hold a 12 oz. soda can and have lid still close.
6. A locking pin for the passenger side floor mat like on the driver's side.

That's all that I can think of and most of the ones that were mentioned on the thread that I started. That's only 6 things I can think of that I would add/change to my car. That's amazing!

My list of what could be better:

1) I want the damn ventilation system to stop being my mommy and insisting I need fresh air. Just look at the thing cross-eyed and it switches you out of recirculate into fresh.

2) Just two more inches on the trunk opening, please! I had to actually change my luggage for my first big road trip, because my full suitcase *wouldn't fit*.

3) The moonroof is way too small, and way too far back. If you're short, like me, and you have to have the seat forward, then the moonroof isn't *over* you, it's *behind* you.

4) Heated seats are weak, I wish they were much hotter. My friends' Audi and VW are.

5) AC could be stronger (cooler), though it is not awful.

6) Wish it didn't have the center console in the back, that just takes up space I'd rather have. And you can't lie a guitar flat across.

7) OH HOW I WISH THE RADIO HAD A BIGGER TEXT DISPLAY (more characters). I spend my life scrolling the stupid thing with the scroll ****, which is not the greatest path towards safe driving.

8) Sirius sucks, I wish it had XM. Sirius loses the signal at the drop of a hat. If you try driving down a shady, tree-overhung street, you're hosed. I've heard XM is better, though I have no first-hand experience.

9) Wish it came with rear-window hula dancer standard! (see the NE thread about the recent NH run)

Hell, I don't even have one of those on the drivers side.

1. Quieter fan.
2. Better A/C.
3. Stronger defroster.
4. Window controls on the center trans tunnel like the Miata's.
5. 17" light wheels.
6. Tailights without the 'Altezza' look.
7. Larger trunk opening.
8. Better stereo or at least it should have come with a headunit thats easily replaceable.

All minor things.
