Are there two different color Red's?

I've seen so many pics of Red Rx8's and many of them look a different shade of Red. I dont see a lot of Bright Red Rx8's. I saw one today in person, and it wasnt the Red I had in mind. I see some online and they look Fire engine or apple Red. Then I see other red's and they look more maroon. Is it the camera/ sunlight or are there two different reds?

Really? Some look orangeish, others kinda burgandy then others look bright red. Same with 04's and 05's? I saw an 05 today that looked real different to me.

I am pretty sure there are two. One is a solid bright red and the other one is a metallic darker version.

Nope there's just one red, velocity red mica for both '04 & '05. It's a mica flake red and looks bright and sold in direct sunlight from a far. Close up you can see the mica flakes. In dark cloudy conditions it looks like a darker blood red or even burgundy.

i think the red is BEAUTYFUL, has a little gold mica flake in it, when its clean and out on a sunny day its amazing. on an overcast or cloudy day it looks much darker and not as pretty and at night under those low light polution (yellow/orange) street lamps it looks brown.

so yes it does depend on the lighting and the camera used.

it's the gold mica flakes in the paint playing lighting tricks to your eyes :D

i really love Mazda's mica paints, give their cars a showcar-ish cameleon color look :D

I think there are 2 reds. Slims8 and I both have V/R and they look different colors even when parked RIGHT NEXT to each other at our meets. Other local members have commented on it too. The difference between the two? My red is faster.

the red can only be truely appreciated in person. I saw pics of it and thought it was lame. Saw one the other day in person driving and i couldn't stop staring, i think it's the best color for the 8.

Well I may think it's the best color, but only a true dolt (no offense dazy) would buy it because it would attract too much unwanted attention.

That must have been the one I saw last night. That isn't the kind of red I'm looking for. I'm on my blackberry now, but later I'll post some pics of the two reds I'm trying to compare.
If there truely is only one red and its more burgandy than apple (bright) red than I may just start looking @ silver ones with the two toned interior.

Definitely not "orangey" though. (Which is a good thing.)

It is amazing how different the Velocity Red looks under different lighting.

Mine goes from darkish Red to bright Red depending on shadows and time of day.

Direct sunlight is best, as that is when you see the gold flakes!

You sound like me....

I was about to buy the red until I saw it had flakes in it. I want just a good fire engine sports car red that is flat without flaking.

Even my Cobra some days isnt the Red I'm looking for. I had a 94 Trans Am that was red, and I loved it and a 2000 Ford Lightning and it was a nice fire engine Red. My Cobra is "red" but in too much sun it looks orange. In other lights it looks a different red...

Above is the best red pic of it I could find of the Cobra and the Lightning. I wont come close to anything like that with the Mazda right? If not, I'd rather get a silver. I like Silver a lot. With the 2 toned red and black interior, I'd rather that than a Red that isnt fire engine red. Thats just my opinion, the red rx8 does still look nice in many shots.
All the pics below of "red" rx8's you are telling me is the same paint color?

Yes those 8 shots you posted are *all* velocity red. As you can see, the sun is drastically different between the brighter red one and the other reds. The close up showing the gold mica flakes by Rob Tomlin is the same red in the 2nd 8 pic that you posted. There is direct sunlight on the car which is dramitically brightening the color and bringing out the mica.
