I doubt a dealship would let you touch the car.
Thanks for the review Bill Walton. At least your aren't prone to exaggeration...
Honestly, I wouldn't trust a single thing you say in a car review.
No acceleration? Are you sure you were hitting the RIGHT pedal?.....
I would be surprised a dealership would let you even touch the car.
Three basic criteria apply for a test drive.
A. You have to be able to at least buy a toaster to test drive a car
B. You have to be sane.
C. You have to have a driver's license.

OP:
Raced and won every single race? Right OP. I don't believe you ever raced, much less won anything.
You can't drive if you can't even tell the difference between over and understeer. I learned the difference in basic TEEN DEFENSIVE DRIVING.
GTFO troll.

First of all, I second swoope's question; you drove a R3 WHERE? Want to give us a location as I'm very interested in knowing where R3s have already been delivered.
Second of all, you did enough research to know that the gear ratios have been shortened. Unfortunately, you apparently didn't realize that the 6th gear was made taller to offset the shortening of the final drive. The net result is the rpm at speed when cruising in 6th is the same for a '04 as for a new '09. '04-'08 RX-8s are also pulling 3000 rpm in 6th gear.
Third, please post your resume. I'm very keen on knowing where exactly you've beaten everyone.
(One last point: Sorry swoope, but the rear suspension geometry of the '09s have been tweaked, so there is a small change to the suspension.)

look, get an rx8, or get out, you are telling us stuff we already know, and obviously you don't know.
biggest difference in 09 that we care about, additional oil injector (for longtivity of engine) and gearing, thats it. it's still the same car.

It's been a little over three years since I have had this car. I've had two accidents (both of which was not my fault) and have had the car restored to the way I purchased it. I have driven it from San Diego to New Jersey and drive back and forth from Virginia to New Jersey every month. After all this, I STILL love my car. I don't care what the OP has to say about this car, nothing will change my opinion about this car. IT IS BY FAR THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. Thank you.
Now back to lurking.

Yeah, the '04 and '06 geometry is the same. I'm not sure what's changed on the '09, just that Mazda literature states there's a rear suspension geometry change. It could be anything from slight repositioning of a mount to wholesale changes, but if I were to bet, I'd say it would be something small, say a repositioning of a toe control knuckle or something.

Personally, I'm tired of people complaining about aspects of this car that are not flaws.
A rotary engine is not a torque monster v8. It's not designed to be and it's not advertised as one. The rotary engine should be praised for it's light weight and insane power per liter output. It's not a burden to the car, it's a blessing. The cars balanced handling exists because of the rotary engine. The car was built to be an agile sports car, not a 1/4 mile monster. STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT RAW POWER!!! That's not what this car is about. It's like buying a crewcab truck and complaining about it's handling....
Also, I think too many people are deceived by this cars power delivery. The smoothness of its power output makes the car feel slower than a car that has that peaky power delivery and 'comes alive' at 3000 rpms etc. The car is quick (hitting 60 in 6 seconds is not slow and does not merit the "why is this car so slow response" it gets all the time). Also, on a track doing laps when the car stays in it's powerband throughout it hangs just fine with "faster" cars.
Oversteer/Understeer... every PROFESSIONAL review I've read comments on how balanced and neutral the car is... just sayin.
