Unhappy terribly sad news for future buyers

i just went to 2 difernet mazda dealers in southern california and i was told that the retail sticker will be around $30,000 for the base model. i talked to the head manager and he said he will be selling them for 10-15,000$ over sticker so around 40-45,000$ he also said that he personnaly would only get 2 each month for a max of 12 a year per dealership. he said id have a hell of a time trying to get one. he also had some good news, he said from his knowledge of original testings the rx-8 beat a porsche carrera off line. and kept up after about 4-5th gear. it dropped after 6th. im going to get some more info and let you know but if any one has any news please keep us informed.

do you have a name and number so i can give those guys a call? from eveything i've been able to find out, dealers don't know their allocations yet. i'd also like to know how he thinks he is going to get any after his first couple just sit on the lot with $40k to $45k price tags on them. the whole packaging for this car is going to be based on bang for the buck, and you can get a whole lot more bang for @ $40k from someone else.

Come on people. Haven't we figured out yet that dealers often know absolutely NOTHING about their cars until the day they arrive on the lot? They constantly stuff BS down your throat to either keep you interested, or make it sound like they are doing you a favor by cutting you a "good deal."

Don't believe a word of what you hear from your dealership. They most definitely don't know the price, since it hasn't been released. They don't know arrival. They don't know allocations.

I would bet everyone on this board knows more about the RX-8 than just about any dealer, much less a salesperson at that dealer.

Its all BS, so don't believe it.

Oh Please...

A person would absolutely have to be insane to pay 10-15k over sticker. If what that dealer said is true about being so much over sticker, then someone (maybe you) should call Mazda and let them in on it, and hopefully they would get that dealer to stop that. It's S***t like that , that's going to kill the RX-8. I would have told that dealer to take a flying leap, and the only thing that he could do for me is to service my RX-8 that I bought elsewhere.

where's the refrain of every dealer-associated thread??
"they know nothing, they're all full of @#($"??
i think this is simply more of the same...

Smile Competition-350Z

Don't know if this matters, but I think it would. A friend of mine just purchased a Nissan 350Z for around $36,000 (purchased all the options). He said he paid sticker price. RX8s shouldn't sell much more than sticker price based upon it's most likely competition (350Z) selling for sticker price. My friend purchase the 350Z in St. Louis, MO.

The dealers are pulling the same crap with the MINI's too.....
I feel that if a dealer is going to bang you MORE than sticker, then you should just pack your bags and go to another mazda dealer, and get a sticker price, then report back to your closest mazda dealer and say, i wanna pay that. And if he or she says no, walk out and then drive your car past a couple of times and tell all the prospective customers about their shoddy business.

What I heard

Also went to 2 different dealers. In my case in 2 different states. The first one gave me a line of BS saying the 8 wouldn't be available till next september and they wouldn't start a list of people that wanted it either. I managed to talk them into starting a list. So I'm first on their list but no deposit. Then I proceeded to a Dallas dealership. They confirmed what I've been reading. Put down a deposit there, #6 person with a deposit down. They said they'll place their order with mazda in january. Production begins in feburary and they'd be getting cars probably in April or May. They didn't know their allotment yet but the sales manager said the central region was going to be allocated 6500 cars for the year. He guessed they'd get 35-40 the first month since they're one of the larger dealers in the region. I asked about MSRP and if they'd be charging over that and I didn't get a direct answer. Based on his reply I infered they will if they can I. That is if demand out weighs supply. Having a deposit at 2 dealerships should give me a little leverage with one or the other when the time comes though. I hope atleast.

noone should EVER pay more than MSRP for ANY car.

If you can't find the car at MSRP or under...wait 3 months, then you'll get it for just over Invoice.

I wouldn't count on the RX8 price dropping anytime soon after its introduction. Back in 1981 when I bought my brand new RX7 (two years after it hit our shores), the cars were still in short supply. Basically none of the dealers would sell for less than the sticker price. And some liked to tack on useless crap like $100 pin stripes.

Hopefully, competition will keep the Mazda dealers in check, although I won't count on it. I'll feel lucky if I can buy an RX8 in the color and with the options I want for sticker price. This time I won't tollerate those insane add-ons.

It's funny how a little rumor here and there can incite such wild speculations. Ultimately, there are so many variables that to guess exactly what is going to happen is pretty ridiculous. You would have to take into account things like, Economy, competitors sales (350Z especially. Side note - whoever posted that stupid info about there friend getting a 350Z for 36K base is a fool. You can go to Nissan's Website and order at the real base of 26K and it goes up to 32K with additions), internet and forums like this, dealers (and there shadiness), and your powers of negotiation. Bottom line is, only time will tell. Just make sure when you walk into a dealer to actually buy one you don't pull down your pants and let them do you dry. It not only screws you, but gives them justification to try and rip the rest of us off.

i agree with the person who said that dealers dont know ****. All the dealers i know are just salesmen who act like they know about cars. the only cars pushing 10k-15k premiums are BMW M series cars, i dont know if they still push premiums like that , and the super exclusives, mainly ferrari type cars. I wonder how the RX-8 will stack up against M3's.

I'm sorry to say this, but you really have to be high on cocaine or something to even stand there and listen to that guy talk, let alone believing it.

Like many people mentioned, no one in hell would pay 10k to 15k more than sticker. You know what kind of bang I can get for that amount. A ****ing M3!! Ok, that's 20k more. But heck, if it's only 5k more than the proclaim rx-8, why not?

You'd be surprised. But with the prices the M3 is commanding, 15-20 more actually wouldn't get you an M3.

And let's watch the language, please.

Take the words from a dealer less than a grain of salt

15k mark-up? I think not! not when there are so much competition such as STI, S2k, EVO, 350z.

Dude, this was MONTHS ago. Check out the date/time posted on all this. It should actually be archived by now to improve database performance.

You think you got it bad .. try this on for size..

I was quoted $39,995 for a Touring.. go F$$%#ing figure. Went to another dealer, $33,600. The next.. "We dont have a price"

And guess what.. that's the all the dealers I can go to... in HAWAII!

What a f#($1! rip.

If anyone knows if there is a difference in transmission or emissions or something on a mainland US car vs. a Hawaii one, I'd be willing to call a dealer in the mainland and have them dropship it to Hawaii!!

Anyone got a good dealer I can call? Help a fellow wanna be RX-8 brother..

dealers

I'd suggest emailing rx8orders @ mazdausa.com - inform them of the situation and see if they can work on something - otherwise, there are plenty of stateside places where you can get sticker - not sure about the shipping cost though...
