First 35K was whatever the dealer wanted to give me. The crappy Motorcraft stuff. I would add Mobil clean 5000 when it was needed. For the past 15k it's been Royal Purple and shall always be until I have a reason to switch. 50k in 2 yrs and 5 months.

Only for first 5000km when the official Mazda engine oil was not available. Did not feel the any different and the first 5000km was not driven hard.

The Syn was Castro R 5W30.

Mazda rotary oil is mineral Castrol 5W30

I am ok for any oil being use.

I am changing over every 2000km or every 2 track days, so it is not matter whoever oil I use, as long as it is relatively new.

I've sold mine, but apart from the first 10,000k, when there was no MRO available from dealers, it was Mobil1. For the remaining 55,000k it was all mineral (MRO). I also change oil & filter every 5,000k

Amsoil 5w30 for the last 11,000 miles.

I debated between RP, Redline, Syntec, and Amsoil before choosing Amsoil.

Between RP and Amsoil the decision breaker was I had easier access to Amsoil since I can order it by the case and not wonder if it will be there when I need it. RP sells out fast at the Napa auto parts stores around me...

Castrol GTX (non-synth) 5w20 before that for 8,000 miles.

Total miles on car 19,000.

Amsoil 5w20 for the last 5,000 miles of the 15,000 total. Change oil every 3,000 miles, so the oil may be getting to be all synthetic with the next change. Yeah, I know, expensive policy, but cheap insurance at this point.

Just went through the recall with flying colors, not even a plug change.

I may go to RP for it's availabilty and maybe a heavier weight such as 5w30 the international markets use.

Castol GTX 5w20 for the first 10,000.

Over a year ago I used synthetic for 3k miles then went back to dino oil. I didn't see any improvement with the car and wanted to make sure I didn't **** off Mazda (just in case).

Because of the turbo, I just put (in this morning) in 5 quarts of RP 10w30, and plan on staying with RP synthetic from now on.

You can say that, but I dont think the engine would *PING* if its N/A :P so yeah so it should be

gas + heat + high Altitude + *turbo boost* = Ping, one rotor go home :P

Just switched to Penzoil Platinum 'full' Synthetic 10W30 at 33K. Stopped pre-mixing after the recall flash.
No clue what the previous owner had been running in this 2005 RX-8. Got only about 250 miles on the oil so far Since the recall flash, RP in the tran and diff, new plugs last weekend, this thing is really running great. Couple more oil changes and most of the dino will be gone!
