sunroof deflector? ...why get one for rx

Maybe I'm missing the point but in my brief 300 plus miles thus far in my new 07 gt 07 it does not appear that our rx8 model needs the sunroof wind deflector. In fact the only time I notice any wind coming into the car is when one starts to close the sun roof and the front of the roof starts to push down on the built in air spoiler (it pops up when the sun roof opens up a few inches). even then it is sort of nice since I can position the sun roof at different points to allow more, or less, air to be forced into the car when it is poistioned in the open position just an inch or so.

those that have a sunroof will know of what I speak.

So you sunroof owners....
had you find a reason to want to add the wind deflector to your rx8 if it u did not purchase the car with it on it already?

Guess I'm just missing the reasoning for it on a rx8 myself.
thanks for your comments

The sunroof deflector along with the window deflectors are designed so that it can be open when it's raining. That is all.

How big is this sunroof deflector if it keeps the rain out when the sunroof is open!??

^ Not in that sense, it only allows you to crack it open about an inch or two in case your preference is to drive with the window open.

I have a Grand Touring and love the sunroof. It is much quieter than expected due to that bar that pops up. If you reach up and hold that bar down, you'll hear a rush of wind that would leave your ears ringing after a couple of hours of steady driving.

Sunroof adds some weight, but I enjoy mine and recommend it on an RX8.

I would agree that the ability to have it open at different amounts is nice ant the deflector would possibly take some of that away. As the OP mentioned I quite like to have the sunroof open a little bit to allow a foce of air into the cabin. I live in Arizona so we don't think about rain too often.

I also suspect it would add drag to the roofline...

Pretty much. It's designed for people who likes keeping their windows open even in the rain.

I bought one from a member. My 8 did not come with a wind deflector. For $20 shipped, I think its a great deal.

I sort of like the wind deflector. Keep in mind that I dont drive fast. Normally do 5 under the speed limit, not 10 over like most do.
I like the looks of it. Dont care if it SLOWS my car down. I still get over 25 mpg at my speed. I do drive fast when I have to or just when I get a wild hair up my SSS.

Good thing is to get one. You dont have to put it on. For 20 bucks or so, you can keep it in the garage.
You can put it on whenever u want to. Its a 2-5 minute job. 2 screw type clamps.
In fact, I should buy another one and keep it in the garage. Just in case this one goes bad and since no one wants them. Should be able to get them cheap. Plan to keep my 8 for a long time. I normally keep my cars for 10 years at the least.
Still have my 95 MX-3RS and my 93 GSi Storm
Just sold my '79 Kawasaki 440. Ya had that for a bit over 20 years!!

I keep my cars forever too...soon to add to my list would probably be a viper or lotus...

BTW...I have the deflector to and love it.

The wind deflector is pretty much there for looks. I do like it , the problem is if you decide to take it off you'll leave a mark on the roof.

sunroof wind deflector to my eyes totally ruin any car (not just rx-8) appearance. it makes the car to appear to have a giant Unibrow on the forehead. Ugly! car mfgs pretty much have designed out any wind noise for the sunroof. So there's no need for these deflectors. I see lots on those older 80s Accords or Preludes though for some reason.
Remember those hood deflectors that were the trend back in the 90s....

I thought those hood deflectors were to prevent rocks from chipping/damaging your windshield...
