Success! After over a year, engine mounts replaced and vibration gone!
I'm so freakin' happy right now I can hardly type straight.
I have an '04 AT which just went out of power train warranty in December. For about a year I have been complaining about a "rough idle" condition since it only happens when I am idle or in reverse. Well every time I brought it in, they did a flash thinking that would fix my problem. I got the MSP16 flash "accidentally" because of one of my complaints. But it still had the problem.
No longer!
Thanks to the awesome people on this forum, I found the TSB for the engine mount issue. I took it in to the dealership in January (3 weeks after warranty expired) with the TSB in my hand, and they had to haggle (or so I'm told) with MNAO to get the job done. Took them 3 weeks, and MNAO agreed "One time good will" which meant they would cover the cost of the 2 mounts and a new bracket but I would have to pay for labor, quoted at $169.
Well I got it back today, and I noticed a difference immediately. It drives like new. Doesn't stutter when accelerating in reverse or when coming to a stop. Smooth as a rotary should be. Success!
The only thing that I'm upset about is it took a year to get this fixed, and that it was done "out of warranty", even though I had the problem documented before that.
Anyways, just wanted to share my experience. Thanks, rx8club!

I think the answer is aftermarket mounts. I asked the MAZDASPEED Motorsports guys about better mounts, and they said they aren't aware of any competition mounts or anybody having problems. They are usually straight-shooters, so I believe they just haven't heard yet. We need stiffer and/or stronger mounts.
I think Ray (Black Halo Racing) mentioned something about having solid mounts in another thread. I've been meaning to ask him about those and where I can get some. Not appropriate if you are worried about noise and vibration, but required if you want razor-sharp throttle response.
