Found it!!!
I think *every* italian carmaker (short of Pagani and Lambo) fall under FIAT..

Ford himself went to Enzo, and Enzo basically blew him off (and Im sure flipped him off too.) Thus was born the GT40 -- to beat ferrari at their own game.

I had no idea Ford had a 'cooperation' deal with FIAT.

Here's a GM press release on the Fiat / GM divorce last year.

I'd like to see Ferrari get Alfa and Maserati (and maybe Lancia) and then float themselves out of FIAT.. before FIAT sinks. That's a rumor that comes and goes.

But really... as long as Ferrari's other son is on the board of Ferrari, and Luca di Montezemolo's still around, I don't think Ferrari will ever leave Italian ownership. Italy is madly proud of Ferrari. Screw fiat -- they don't want to see Ferrari sullied.

(Back on topic)

Things I've been asked:

Is that a Corvette?

Is that a Lotus?

How many cylinders? (None, it's more like a jet.. it just spins round and round)

Is that a hybrid? (Uh.. yeah, btween a boinger and a jet..)

That's Front Wheel Drive, right? (uh........)

But then again, with the Miata;

Is that a Porsche (very frequently!)

Is that a rotary? (I wish.......)

When I first got it I had a guy ask was it v6 and I said NO. He asked what it had and I said a Rotary engine. And he's like "Oh, that's cool you got a wankel engine in there." I was like coooool he knew what a rotary was. But of course he's a mechanical engineer. goes to figure.

I also had a couple of girls riding with me who asked, "so is this car economical?" I told them no the engine suck a lot of gas. and they asked why? is it a v6? I said no it's a v-0. They had a puzzled look and said, "Then it must be real economical!"

If a robot ever comes up to you and inquires about your car, just tell them that it's a V0 and that it makes 232 hp. Then ask it to compute the horsepower per piston. DOES NOT COMPUTE! ::head explodes::

it's amazing how italians make things that are either really really good or really really ugly and crappy, with no mid point

FIAT deserves to crash and burn, a friend of mine in luxemburg got rid of her diesel fiat station wagon after she had to send it in for major repairs 3 times.... after only 80,000 kms (that's 50,000 miles for you non metric types). then she got smart and got rid of it

Add to that that you get cars as ugly as this, looks like a cross between a Hummer and a pacer with the wheels off of a wheelbarrow.

or perhaps a winner for the title of ugliest car of all time like this

only citroen consistently makes uglier cars

so if fiat makes crap, why then does anyone think that they can float the likes of companies like maserati or lancia?

I get people thinking it's a Lexus all the time.

My favorite comment though was a guy working in the drive through at Carls Jr. He was telling me how much he wants one and he says "those don't have any spark plugs right?".

I attempted to explain the rotary engine for a few minutes until he asked how many cylinders it had... Then I took my food and left.

I don't think they bear any resemblence at all, other than the fact that they both have four wheels!!!

I don't post often but this is funny. Had a relative in his 30's visit from Italy. His first question after seeing it was, is that a Ferrari? Although I was humbled I said no, it's a Mazda. Reply, Ahhhh Mazda. Even native Italians think it's a Ferrari.

This guy said that he wouldn't buy the G35 or th 350Z because they were V6 and RX8 is a V8 and when I told him its only 1.3 L rotary , he was surprized. Some people have a hard time grasping the concept that how can a car run without 4 cyinders

It doesn't have 8 cylinders -- it's 8 rotors. That's what RX-8 stands for. 'R' means "rotor", 'X' means "times", and '8' means "8". "Rotor times 8" or in other words, "8 rotors". One more than the RX-7. Right?

This reminds me:

A guy at the gas station, who was wearing a weird outfit and who was obviously on “something”, told me that RX-8 stood for “R marks the spot to infinity”

R= R
X= Marks the spot
8 sideways = infinity

Then he somehow decided that my license plate letters stood for "we are friends". That's when I decided to cancel the fill up and leave (while demonstrating the high revving capabilities of my rotary engine of course).

I got a pretty good one, I felt ashamed for the guy. He said, "that your Mazda?" - I was the only one there...no other cars. I said, "uh-huh". He says, "Nice...I just bought one just like it for my wife, only gray." I say, "great, always nice to meet a fellow 8 owner...how do you like it?". He replies, "we love it! (pensive) It really has a BIG engine in it for such a small car." I just couldn't say anything but, "umm, uh-huh."

DOH!!!
