Hey guys! I know that this should probably belong in another section, I was reading over the frequently asked and the modding threads that were included in the... "All newbies should read this." And I did a couple of searches on google but they all seemed to be... Generally pretty wishy washy. I was wondering if anyone could provide me a straight up answer...

So basically my cousin has a greddy turbo kit he's willing to send me only for the shipping and handling. I know someone that will tune it for me but doing more research, I found out that I might need to straight pipe my 8 but isn't that weird because the stock cat has pretty high airflow anyway... So basically they say it's the heat. I want to determine the validity of that. I also wonder how it'll pass smog and if there's anyway to make it legal.

I was reading the other threads and a lot of people say that it will fail visual, and then some others say that there were some turbos that were certified, and others say that it's not, on the websites it doesn't exactly say anything or I am too daft to find it... What do you think? I need your expertise! Please don't hurt me! D: But if you know of any other threads, please link it to me or something... Because it would really help. Thank you!

 

there is no certified turbo will get you pass emission visual test. period.

no test pipe will pass visual, unless he/she is blind or you know him.

sounds like you are in CALI, so there is no way to pass visual if u have a turbo kit ... unless you can hide everything cleanly (use imagination) and gut the stock cat (empty out whatever it has inside) and mask the CEL with AP sort of thing, it can be done but on the other hand it's illegal if they found out u're dead.

 

I have heard of people taking apart their cats and welding them on as shells to cover up their mid pipes lol. Never seen it though.

 

That's kind of extreme.
