I took my car to the dealership yesterday to check out something that I thought was wrong with it, while I was there I noticed that whining sound that either the throttle body or the alternator makes, so we went to check out another rx8, an 05 shinka, that was on the lot waiting for pickup.

Question follows for those who had their starters replaced: The shinka's starter is much quieter than mine is. Is there a notable difference in the sound between the original one and the one that is installed after the starter and battery TSB?

 

Yes thew new one cranks faster and has a different sound.
