"Spirited Driving"
I have read several posts from the more spirited drivers on this board about
breaking tires free in 2nd and 3rd gears. Are these maneuvers accomplished with the TSC/DSC off? I'm not looking to burn rubber all over town but sometimes that long highway on-ramp is too tempting to ignore and the dark side takes over. . .

It depends what you mean by "breaking tires free"? You can lose grip and squel and/or chirp depending on the circumstances, with dsc on or off. But off will give more dramatic results. Most of all don't rely on dsc to cover for stupidity.

Would it be bad for someone to constantly switch back and forth between DSC on/off? I mean not so much for car but for the driver, relying on DSC at times thinking it is on when it actually off... as opposite to just being aware of your own driving skills and limitations.
Personally I think there is no substitute for solid driving experience/skills and a good set of high quality rubbers.

with the dsc/tc off, a hard shift from 1st to 2nd will send the back of the car sideways. it then usually straightens out nicely, but id practive away from an on ramp at first.

I wouldn't reccomend trying this, as I didn't intend to do it myself.....
I got a pretty good 2nd gear squeal (until I slammed the clutch back down) by accidentally doing a 6-2 downshift at about 60-65 MPH when I was shooting for a 6-4. Considering I was on a cloverleaf interchange ramp at the time, I'm probably lucky to still have an intact car and/or body.

Wow you are lucky, that normally would cause serious damage to the tranny. I bet it scared the heck out of ya.

I don't have DSC and was taking a left out of the parking lot where I work. It's one of those 4 lane Blvd things where everyone drives 50 so you have to get on it not to get hit by traffic going either direction. Anyway, I did a hard high rev 1st to 2nd shift while turning hard to the left and definitely got more than a little sideways. Was kina fun :D Anyway, since the M flash, chirping 2nd for me is pretty common if I'm in Stolen Care Mode...
