Its hard to speed when you were probably driving a 3 cylinder vintage Geo Metro all those years before the 8.

same thing happened to me... Got 2 speeding tickets in 2 weeks out of nowhere after driving the same way for 2 years. I've learned my lesson and pay attention to my speed more carefully now, but I still go crazy with freeway transition ramps and street corners...

lol, My grandpa has a 3 cylinder Geo Metro. You have to push it pretty hard to speed, but he does get about 50mpg on a good day though.

Yeah, when you have an engine that goes up to 9k and you get addicted to the beep, its hard to only hear one, you have to keep going.

Yeah, it's hard to just cruise by a cop at 9000 RPM.
b b b but officer, I was just cleaning out the carbon, honest...
LOL!

Seriously, get a radar detector and then don't count on it to keep your but out of a sling. Your driving a sports car now. Cops don't know it's underpowered.

I get pulled over alot too. My situation is different a lil bit I never get tickets when I deserve them but going downhill and about 5 miles over Ill get a ticket. Also for me it doesnt matter what I drive Ill get pulled. Its not the cops fault either, they are doing thier job. If you are nice to them, they will be nice to you. Esp. if you play dumb and say your lost they will even let you follow them to your destination. Its all about how you treat them though, they are only human too!

Invest in a good radar/laser detector, keep one eye on the road in front and the other in the rearview and if someone wants to think there faster then you let them because usually they will pull over the vehicle in front and not behind. I save 40 minutes a day to and from work. You got to figure the cost of the ticket against lost travel time over the long run.

IS IT WORTH IT???

Hell yes

When I get pulled over first thing i say is "82" or whatever speed I was going with a smile. Last few times the officer was shocked and let me go. Haven't had a ticket in 5 years or so. My military haircut helps as well since I'm in the national guard.

I have veteran plates on mine so that always helps alot. Plus I hand them my military ID at the same time as my license. 4 warnings but no tickets so far while driving my Nissan frontier. Haven't been stopped yet in the 8.

Some of you are a bit hard on the guy.

I'm 38, and I got stopped 3 times in a 18 months in the 8. My last car was a Passat, never got stopped in three years. Same work route, same average speed. Two of those stops really pissed my off...one stopped me 'cause he was "just doing a routine check"...I only ever got harrased like that on my bike. In the other I was in a group of four cars doing 20kmh over...and he flags me over. Said he: "I can't stop you all."

This is one thing I hate about the car.

For the first year I had the Rx8 I must have breaken the speed limit by leaps N bounds I have to admit but it was always when I was the only one around for miles. The one month ago I got 2 tickets in a span of 3 days... Yes I desirved them big time.

Ticket 1:
I have to say though that the officers were super cool with me. The first one was on a major highway when I was trying to catch up to this jacked up Turbo Diesel truck that had a god the size of a Bear in the truck bed and I had a bet with my buddy on what type of dog it was. Well I accelorated to catch up and whammo! LASER detected (makes laser noise) and I am being chased by a Maurader. The cops comes out and I made sure that I pulled over enough into the grass so he knows I am trying to keep everyone away from traffic N safe...He asks do you know why I am pulling you over (at this time I feel like saying AH DUH but he does not know my sense of humer) and I reply because I was speeding. The guy was like well yeah you were..."This is a very NICE car you have here but there is no excuse for speeding...". I agreed and thanked him (you can faintly hear the cries of agony from my wallet).

Ticket 2:
This was at 2 am on a Saturday night with only a mini cooper on the road with me. I have my radar detector on but on silent and I was not paying attention just crusing have a moderate amount of fun with the car. I did not realize the speed I was going at when I see a cop and think nothing of it. Then the lights go on and I let off the gas. I proceed to pull over but I made an intentional effort to pull into a parking lot where the officer could move freely an not have to worry about traffic. The guy comes out and the first thing he asks: "So how did that thing work for ya...(radar detector)". I basically laughed out loud and said you know what I was on silent and I was just enjoying the ride to be honest. The guy basically smiles and complements the car. He comes back and hands me the ticket and mentions that he noted on the ticket that I co-operated with them and pulled over to safe location etc etc. Story short he intentionaly did not show to court for this ticket. The guy shook my hand and thanked me...Very kewl guy!

Moral of the story...Don't hate them for doing there job just make an effort to show them you were taking there safety into consideration and maybe they will return the favor...maybe not. Either way they are there to serve and protect.

I also understand that most officers are jerks to...Trust me I've been yelled at before but I dont get that many tickets. Maybe 4 or 5 in a span of 12 years.
