Spare Tire Laying In The Trunk

Today I opened my trunk for the second time since I've had my 8 and the spare was just laying in trunk. I remounted the tire with the thumbscrew bolt. I also found a strap with 2 hooks inside the tire cover, any idea where to put the strap or what its purpose is?
2 months and 5000 miles later I still can't decide if the car is fast or not.I never get the sensation that the motor is pulling ,but everytime I look down I'm doing 90 or 100 so I guess it is. It feels different than my turbo2 and even my old n/a rx7. I wonder if its the torque curve or the gearing but the renisis motor feels different than any other rotary powered car that I have driven. Weird!

I kinda agree, i had a 94 rx7 and it was much faster but they both sound similar and with the 8 its just so much smoother and thank god I'm not in the shop like i was with my 7 i had major trouble after i hit 17k miles. I'm at 36k with my 04 rx8 not one problem

That strap is to act like a third hand so you can tighten / loosen the thumb screw and not have to hold up the spare.

Your comments about how fast (or not) the RX-8 is are interesting. I feel it depends on what you used to drive; a brute-force muscle car, a turbo *** or a nimble British 4-banger or whatever. I think the RX-8 is fast, but I also believe it is not a muscle car. I, too, have found myself booking down the road at a pretty fast clip, yet it didn't feel all that fast. Well, kudos to the car; the engine goes about it's business very smoothly and the car handles like a dream, even at high speeds. I've been in cars that felt like they were going 150 when only going 90. The 8 seems to be just the opposite; it goes pretty quickly, but in a smooth, refined way. But, it isn't a 505 HP Corvette either.
