Sound from under the car when car is in neutral + the clutch is released

Hi guys,

I just had my first oil change today with the recall. I noticed today that when I put the car to neutral and release the clutch (the pedal), I hear a small squeaking (rrrrrrr....) coming from under the car (from the transmission, I think). I have never noticed this sound before. When you guys put your car to neutral and release the clutch (the pedal), do you hear a different sound? It might be just normal and I never noticed this before.

PS: I can only hear this sound when I put the car to the neutral AND release the clutch.

Oh yeah...I checked the oil and it is full (nothing to do with this).

Thanks.

I notice a rougher, deeper sound with the clutch out rather than in, not 'squeaking' however...I hear it when I'm parking in the garage or somewhere quiet rather than out in traffic.

yeah,we all seem to have it......sounds like a dry throw-out bearing in need of lubrication...I have the same sound but as far as I know its normal even though it sounds like that.... not an expert on the internals of this tranny assembly

Rougher would probably be right also. It is very hard to explain but the sound seems to be produce from the transmission. It is a grrrrrr... It is like if 2 things get in contact (friction) when I release the clutch at neutral.

This is a good explanation of the sound.

Well, I guess it is normal. Funny that I did not notice before. You have to be outside the car or with the driver's window down in order to hear it.

I love it anyway even if I hear a grrrrr... at neutral

Thanks guys.

It's the throwout bearing.

start using synthetic gear oil, and that sound is reduced dramatically.

CHECK!!!

I also have that noise and at first I worried about it but like everyone is saying...it's "normal" for our tranny. But...I'll listen to the advice to use synthetic gear oil, sounds like a good idea regardless of the sound.

shifts will also be much smoother, especially when the car is cold. I also hear less noise in the diff after using the synthetic fluids.
You just have to tell your service center not to top them off when in for oil changes and the like.

I added redline, and it sounds the same. I also now hear this faint whirring/wooshing sound that is not constant at idle along with that other sound. Anyone else? Going to have this checked out when I do my recall.

I've had that sound ever since I bought my car over two years ago. As far as I know, it's normal. I wouldn't worry about it.
