Soon to be 2006 Shinka RX8 Owner

Hey all,

I am going to sign all the paper for a 2006 RX8 6spd. I'm getting the car for $15400CAD, and it has 22175kms on it. I've been reading the forums for the past week, so I've got most of the RX8 quirks covered. Now to my question, the car has a few small deep scratches. There are about 2-3 that go down to the metal, and they are about 1mm to 2mm in diameter. I'm gonna take pics of the car today to get an opinion from anyone who cares. I'll be back home around 4-5pm. How do I post pictures in a thread?

Thanks to all.

When you're composing a message, there's a "Manage attachments" button a bit below where you're typing. Click on that. The rest should be obvious.

I suggest posting the pics in the "Show and Shine" forum. Bunch of people there who care and know their stuff.

Congrats on the new purchase. You'll enjoy it very much.
As far as the scratches go,, you have to repaint the panels to get vrid of them. You could try some touch up paint but it will look like crap.

As far as scratches go, they don't have a diameter unless they're a circle.

Good Luck with your new car!

Congrats, that seems like an unbelievably great price. $12,300 US for a Shinka with less than 14k miles. Or did I get my conversion factors reversed? When you say 6-speed, do you also mean manual transmission?

How'd you score a 06 Rx-8 with 22k KM for $15,400?

I paid about $20,000 CAD (with tax and everything) for an 04 with 82k KM.

That deal seems too good to be true. Have you gotten a car fax report? Possibly a lemon, or been into an accident.

Where you located anyways?

Hey all,

Thanks for the quick responses; I should have a good time on this forum. I attached the pics. The pics show the right rear window near the rear passenger window. It looks like the clear coat is coming off the paint. What should I ask the dealer to do about that? As for the pic of the deep scratch on the front right fender, the pics turned out terrible so there's no point in posting them. I'm just gonna tell the guy to repaint the fender, which he offered to do anyways.

The location of the car is in Toronto. I'm pretty sure the guy doesn't know it's a Shinka. I'm going to get the VIN number checked out on Monday morning. I'm taking it to a local Mazda dealership to get it inspected. In the contract, the car has to pass my visual inspection as well as Mazda's for the deal to go through.

As for the price, yes it's amazing!! It was listed at 16900, but I got him to do 15,300. The interior is mint, and the cream is real nice. I'm pretty excited.

I'll post pics of the car on Friday or sometime next week.

Jag

Edit: car is a 6spd manual. Forgot the autos came with a 6spd too.

ask the dealer to fix it. the body and finish has it own warranty and it should still apply.

Did you buy it from someone or from the dealership?

I got it from a dealership. I found it on autotrader.ca. There are quite a few of them for decent prices. Example, 2005 with 36000kms for $16000 GT with the factory Mazda kit on it. It's red, and the interior is red/black, which looks tacky in pictures. In person it may be different though. Here is the autotrader link. http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...7&adid=7449078

I can't wait to drive it. I can't drive stick so I had my cousin test drive it for me! It's gonna be fun. The car is really solid. Took it up to 160km/h, and since I was in the passenger seat I thought we were going around 120-130. The engine is soo smooth. He redlined the car a few times. My cousin said the shifter felt brand new, and the clutch was still strong. He moved the car a bit from second to test the clutch. Could someone explain how this test works?

While I've got everyones attention, could you guys recommend the type of engine oil I should use?

Thanks all,

Jag

In Canada, I'd say something like 5w30 winter, 10w40 summer. Change every 3k miles and there's no reason to use the more expensive synthetic oils IMHO.

This car sounds very similar to a car i saw at Cristal2000 in North York, Toronto.

The dealer says "Accident Free" on his trader.ca ad, but a carproof will prove differently.

I recall over $10,000 of collision work showing up on the reports.

Hey,

I'm getting a report from The Ministry of Transportation (aka Carfax) today and I'm getting it inspected by Toronto of Mazda tomorrow. If it doesn't pass Mazda's inspection I can cancel the contract.

Cristal2000 is the place I bought the car. The dealership said the car still has factory warranty left, so it shouldn't be a salvage title. And if it is a salvage title it will show up on the Ministry's report. I'm not too worried because I made sure I covered my *** with a few clauses I had them put into the contract.

make sure you look at the carPROOF and not just the carfax.. its a quebec car, so out of province damages wont show on the carfax

good luck

This is dealership is also selling a 645Ci at $42k and a 750i for 38k. Both are right on the Cdn black book trade-in prices without the typical dealers markup. So are most of their cars's prices. I would be worried buying from them. Newish cars are generally sold at dealerships. When they can be found at noname dealerships.... buyers beware.
Best to have the car checked out buy a qualified auto body collision.

Hey,

I got the carproof which stated 10,000 of damage to the car. When I confronted them about this they acted as if they had no clue. I argued with them for a bit, but canceled the deal. Very sketchy dealership.

If you are planning on buying any car at Cristal2000 Auto Inc. make sure you get all the reports on the car you are looking at because they will not disclose the damage done to their cars. I was planning on picking up the car this week, but thanks to lakesnufer I didn't get stuck with a car that has 10gs of damage to it.

Very sleazy dealership. It's extremely frustrating knowing people like them are in business at all. I wasted three weeks looking at the car, and they didn't have the nerve to tell me about the car's history. All he said was the rear bumper had been repainted for a minor accident.

I'll still be looking at a few other RX8s. Hopefully I'll be able to pick one up.

Glad to help out.. Be weary of most dealerships in that area..

I ended up buying at Autopark in Burlington. It was a bit of a trek down there but their honest sales managers and lowest price guarantee makes it work it

PS: There were a couple listed at "Ideal Fine Auto" as well that i had a look at and all of them have been in accidents.

Good luck fellow iron ringee

ON My Dealer Recommendations

Ouch, you dodged a bullet on that one. There are three Mazda dealers that i would recommend,

Guelph City Mazda - Where i bought my '06 Shinka, service was good and i got a wicked deal for the time (summer of '07)

Oakville Mazda - This is where i take her for everything, great customer service, ask for the service manager "Tiffany"

Scarborough Mazda - Only been there once but Al has a wicked rep. They fixed my sun visor that broke off and shorted out all the interior electronics as it fell to the floor ripping out the power wires for the mirror light (why in gods name they would put a mirror light in an 8 is beyond me!!). ( They had her back up and running right away)

Good luck Iron Ringed!!

Thanks for everyone's help, concern, and recommendations.

After reviewing my finances, I am going to hold back on purchasing a car, unless an unbelievably LEGIT deal comes up. During the recession I hope something comes up sooner than later.

The only problem is I now have a soft sport for the 06 Shinka. The cream interior and Copper Red is just gorgeous.

I reported the dealer to UCDA, Used Car Dealers Association, which they are apart of. They violated one of the clauses in the code of ethics which states, the dealership must disclose all damage valued at more than $3000 to every car. The UCDA emailed me saying they informed the dealer about the issue. I'm not sure if the UCDA is going to pursue further action, other than "informing the dealer". If that is the case, then it is kind of disappointing.

Again, thank you for everyones help. RX8Club owns and I don't even own an RX8!!

This is off topic, but a question to lakesnurfer. What kind of engineer are you. I'm a Systems and Computer Engineer from the University of Guelph.

+1 for engineers!!

Based on the number of shady UCDA approved dealers in North York, (prove me wrong)i wouldn't be surprised if your complaint is placed in a Folder labelled ShredIt

Good luck bud.. and the beige "suede"/ leather interior on the Shinka is definitely very comfortable... so keep yer eye out

If only I had read your comment yesterday, then I would have saved myself $40 on a carproof. ;-) (Guess I really should hang out here more) Thanks for the heads up IRON and lakesnurfer

Interesting because the guy at Cristal mentioned that he was friends with the owner of Oakville Mazda... and he also pulled out this Ford off-lease auction website using an 'oakville mazda' user... Anyone know more about how Mazda works their off-lease vehicles?

I believe other Mazda dealers get dibs before it goes out to a group auction where anyone with a dealership license can bid
