I was having a nice time washing my 8 when somehow I locked my keys in the car. Ugh. I'm at my parents house and the 2nd set's with my boyfriend in Houston. Anyone know if the dealership can make a new key without me having mine or should I just call the roadside people? They live way out in the sticks and I don't know about their response time way out here.

I just can't believe it. I drove to Alexandria to see if the service people could make a new key but they closed 30 minutes before I got there. Bastards won't be open tomorrow so I might have to wait til Monday unless I try roadside.

Just so damn aggrivating. And it's under a damn oak tree dropping acorns. Had to borrow my mom's car cover to protect it for the night. Stupid tree! Stupid me...

Go with mom and see what the dealership can do...perhaps they have a vin-key database. Last resort, call a roadside that specializes in 8's. Roadside will definetely not only scrtach you windows, and perhaps cut a few wires in the door should they choose the jimmy route but also chip the doors when they wedge that plastic piece in between the rear and front doors (to open the door more) .

 

Have your boyfriend overnight it via UPS or FedEx. Probably much cheaper than the other options. Good luck!

Having you boy friend Next-day your other set seems like the best Idea. If not, the dealer can make a new set , with the number on the little metal plate that came with the keys when you got the car. If you lost that metal plate, like I did, then there isn't much the dealer can do.

 

I am near Houston (Brenham). I can bring my 8 over for you to wash if you'd like??!!

I would vouch for roadside assistance.

 

Give the Mazda dealership your VIN number on your dash and they can make you a new key. I've had to do that before when I locked my keys in the car at work.

 

Who did you call for assistance? I've never heard of a bonafide locksmith doing any of the above nonsense. Last time I needed an unlock was for my Jeep. Chrysler sent a local locksmith. Locksmith looked the vehicle up in a reference manual, selected the best pick for the job and proceeded to unlock the door in under thirty seconds. No damage whatsoever.

AAA unlocked my old corolla and camry twice. On the corolla he wedge a plastic piece in between the front and rear doors (in the process takin off a little paint on the black frame) to give it some space. He then ran a skinny metal bar and tapped the automatic locks. (total time 10 seconds!!!)

On the Camry they used a slim jim. The metal put surface scratches all over the window and he took out a wire in the process. (5 minutes on both doors and almost gave up). Ironically, he had me sign a release before opening the door so I fixed it myself

 

Eh, not like I have anywhere to go so the keys are in the mail and on their way. Although I think I might get a copy made after I get my own set out. Anyways, an excuse to finally look at a white 8 on the lot and oogle for a while.
