Some quick questions..

I recently bought an RX-8 and i'm lonvg it so far but the gas mileage sucks. Dont get me wrong, I was very well aware of this before I even bought the car and it doesnt really stop me from liking the car or anything like that..

The thing is that I'll drive about 45-50 miles in the city w/o speeding or reaching high RPMs and i'd waste 1/4th of a tank. Is this average or is something wrong with that? Also, my center console tends to get really hot while driving.

Is there something wrong or is it just my imagination?

Thanks

it also depends on how much you idle/sit at lights, how hard you accelerate, and whether you use your brakes a lot . It's not just speed and rpms...

ask yourself what's under the center console and you'll see that heat it's normal...

180-250 miles on a tank of gas is typical. So 1/4th at 50 mile mark is fine. That's actually what I get usually.

Center console gets hot because the transmission is right underneath. Some people insulate the bottom of the cup holders.

Also, I know this is a stupid question, and I might even get bashed for asking lol... I have an AT 8...the car doesnt peel/burn out for even 1/2 sec if I floor it from a dead stop. Is this normal too? I was able to do it in other RWD cars w/ less power...

normal due to the powerband of the engine.

insulation under the cupholders is a very good thing

don't put an ice cream cup in your cup holder if you want it to last, trust me...

i don't think that there's a whole lot you can do mainly because the gas tank in the 8 isn't very large and the mileage is pretty bad, combined it makes the situation look worse than it really is

Mileage seems about right to me. I used to drive 30 miles to work, 60 miles a day and I'd get 230 miles to a tank on average. Now I'm 3 miles from work and I only put about 250 miles on the car in a month. My mileage is averaging about 9 mpg. Then again, I spend half my drive-time at traffic lights.

I've never noticed any significant amout of heat from the console area. I mean if I feel around, sure it's warm. But for some reason I don't rub the console when I drive, so it's not been a problem. There was a recall related to console heat however but that was on some of the very earliest 8's in the US.

Even in the standard transmission, the 8's a slug off the line. I would have been surprised if you told me that the AT was any better.
