Sold my 8 to buy an Evo... first impressions

So like the title says I got a deal I couldnt say no on a 2011 evo gsr so I traded my 8 in Here are my impressions of the whole situation

The bad :
  • I MISS my rx8. Like seriously I miss it.
  • I see tons of 8s everywhere since I bought the evo
  • I saw MY OWN 8 at the movie theather parking lot !!! What are the chances of that??? like It had my tires, hail damage in the same spots lol , rust in the same spots, I couldnt believe it then I checked the vin and yeah it was my old 8
  • The evo is made of plastic.. literaly
  • The shift *** on the evo is a joke!
  • Some plastics on the evo interior are worse that the plastic engine cover for the 8
  • IMPOSIBLE to get a good driving positon on the evo.
  • 7000 RPM redline....
  • The evo is over rated... Like the new 5.0L mustang eats this thing in the drag/track
  • A civic si with its vtech sounds better than the evo lol
The good
  • Torque.. lol passing people on the highway on 5th gear like nothing
  • Handles as good as the 8
  • Its a good car in general. More room on the back seats. Awesome winter car
  • Easy/cheap to mod.. Accessport + exhaust + cai = +85whp as an example
  • A little better on gas
  • The door doesnt try to hit my face everytime I try to get out of the car like on the 8
  • No need to buy nemo to complete the fish tank I had on my taillight
  • No fears of flodding my car lol I never did but i fully warmed up my car everytime before shutting it off ( waste of gas) and just less **** to keep in mind/take care of/do than with the 8.. of courrse i never cared because I love my 8
  • Better ride quality on gravel and bad roads
  • Normal muscle car driver thinks im taking a lancer to the drag and think their massive engine is gonna destroy my gay looking box/lancer... till i hit the gas
  • Its a new car so mainteance should be easier/cheaper
So yeah the message of the story is.. LEARN to love what you have (your rx8) because you are gonna miss every detail of it when you sell it and I mean every detail and dont get me wrong I love my evo to pieces! I dont regret buying it since I need awd now but the 8 is an awesome car, an engineering master piece and with the best forum! People like rx8soldier and jason and LOTS more just helping noobs 24/7 ! like you guys saved mazda tons of money on new engines and **** for the 8 literaly. So thanks to everyone who always helped me and others with any questions! Now go and hit 9300 rpm for me and love your 8!!

I don't think ill ever intentionally get rid of my 8 (On my 3rd 1).

I see 1 once in a blue but i see evos and g35/7s bmws EVERYWHERE i like how rare the rx8 is -- People always ask me what kinda car it is lol

Congrats. I like EVO's on a performance level and my buddy has owned three since the first gen so i have wrenched on them a lot but they are freakin' everywhere around here so I don't think I could own one. There are a crap ton of fast EVO's around here. Having a fast RX-8 is just much more rewarding to me.

But I agree, the EVO seems like much less of a headache and it is definitely a great car that has written it's place in fast car history for sure.

I wouldn't regret making that choice. You found a great car for our Canadian weather!
If I didn't have a truck to get me around in winter, I'd consider the Evo for sure.

Good luck with the Evo!

Kinda sorry you got an 2011 evo, i would of told you it feels like a plastic car. Its good nontheless but if i was shoping for an evo 05/06 would be the years before it went plastic.

I almost this morning traded the 8 in on 2008 GTS,,, I had my reasons but i couldn't do it, dam thing smiles at you and you melt... its evil i tell ya lolz

@Souhjah they do, its the MR versions but being in the DSM world that i was, the MR trans where junk, the 5spds held up better.

The GSR has a 5 speed manual... you have to go up to the MR to get a 6 speed gearbox.

I've always wanted an evo back then, but i fell in love with the rx8. If i have to choose now, it will be the rx8...enough said. Anyway, congrats on the evo, and it's my favorite color too...like my Mazda 6i.

Nice color choice on the Evo X.

And I doubt you miss your old 8 as much as you say you do.

Have fun with your new rally-bred performance car, and be safe.

I like how the modded evos look, but the interior does look and feels very cheap when you are inside. I love the tan leather and alcantara seats in my rx8 and the over all feel of all the inside components.

haha I had been thinking the same thing. Although, I think I might keep my 8 for track days etc. I think something with (even a little bit) better milage and AWD is what I'm after.

My car's been up on blocks for about 4-6 weeks (until last night actually), and I missed the hell out of it while I was driving a rental. Been putting some serious consideration into trading it in and getting a BMW 125i... but the thing is... the rx8 is sooooooo unique, sooooo sexy and everyone loves it.

While the BMW 125i is awesome, it just doesn't have that same appeal ya know? Maybe a couple dudes might be like "hey man nice wheels", but girls are just going to be like "what's the difference between this bmw and that one that looks just like it?"

An EVO is the same way, it's a good car... but there's zero appeal other than some numbers on paper.

The 125i is a nice performer but that thing is butt ugly. EVO is a little better looker but not an eye catcher like the RX. I always thought the new EVO was a step backwards after seeing it gain 300 lbs from the previous model and drop in 0-60 time but I have to say that the electronic handling dynamics are pretty impressive.

I am planning to move to a WRX when finished with the RX (AWD, better MPG, power) but the Sub does not handle as well as the EVO or the RX but outruns them both in stock form.

to reply to some coments:

The EVO gets better gas mileage than the STI if i recall correctly! I really dont care about mileage anyways..

The EVO gets way more power than the STI when you start modding

The EVO sounds like ****. The STIs engine is pure music!! The EVO sounds like a big fan just about to explode

Being 100% honest , I get more people looking at my EVO than to the 8 BUT mostly guys so it makes you feel gay lol ! The 8 is way better looking and women love it! When i first showed the evo to my gf she said "so whats the difference between this and a normal lancer"...

The 125 is awesome ! go to youtube and search evo vs bmw top gear australia

Where do you live? Richmond, Virginia is swarmed with RX-8's. They are absolutely everywhere. I haven't gone on a drive yet in mine and not seen another one. Walking to my parking lot one day, I passed a black one parked on the street, a red one a block down, a blue one drove by, a yellow one in another parking lot and a white one in my parking lot parked right next to mine. I then saw a green one on the highway home. My friend's dad drives a white one as well, and someone in my neighborhood just moved in with a blue one.

The ONLY solace I get is in knowing I have one of only a few Series 2's in the area, though there is a silver one running around.

Nevertheless, people still ask about it.

Sorry to thread jack. Congrats on the Evo! I would've done the same honestly. Only reason I got an 8 is because a newer Evo was out of my price range, and I couldn't find a VIII MR or IX MR in decent shape. Teens and army folk beat them all to hell.
