So...what will come of Mazda Vs. the Public ... and MPG
Okay, its no BS..we ALL know... the RX-8 SUCKS at MPG.
Personally, when I drive slower than my great-grandma, I've gotten 17.5mpg (once)...with an average of 14.5-15.5mpg... diving conserativly..
Driving like I like to, I get about 12.5-14.5mpg... (more agressive driving of my s2000 I get around 20-22mpg, and I rail the sheit out of it harder, and go faster for comparison).
Okay, so...we get crap gas milage, and when I was paying .87 cents for super a few years ago...it didn't matter so much..just annoying to fill-up so often..
But now, at $2.00+ / Gallon.. its a bigger deal.
I was told/promised/expected from the EPA sticker to get 18-24mpg.
As most of you, I've never even seen the BOTTOM number (18mpg).
anyway... I'm not going to bitch (further) about the crap gas milage, rather.. I'm curious... What does EVERYONE "THINK" is going to happen with this?
Do you think they'll offer some kind of "refund" or "recall"??
Or some major "discount" on service or warranty?
Do you think a major class-action lawsuit will come?
Don't get me wrong..this isn't a flame-the-rx8 cuz it sucks at gas-milage... I just think, like myself, people bought this car...EXPECTING a certain gas-milage..
Imagine, for a moment, you bought an electric car... claiming 90mp(Gallon...yes, its eletric, I know), and paid $25k for it... and got 15 minutes of running time before it needs to be recharged.. you'de be irritated, right?
Well..in my opinion, thats what happened to (me) now that I get on average 13.5mpg..not evening driving like Mario Andertti.
So.. I'm just curious..what all do u think is going to come from this?? Is big-corprate America Mazda going to get away with screwing so many people out of at LEAST 2x the $$ for gas-milage?

I don't think much will come but I agree. I get tired of reading should have bought a civic, etc. I didn't expect to get 25 mpg, but my F150 pulling my boat got equal gas mileage and i drive this car alot easier then people I have read on here. I am not into racing and haven't gotten a speeding ticket in forever. 13-14 mpg just sucks period but i still love the car.

Get it off your chest brotha but I think most of us are getting expected gas mileage and a few aren't. I'm getting 19mpg 60% city driving moderate-aggressive driving. 89 octane seems to work best for me.

Yes.... my mpg sucks... I don't blame my 8... I blame my driving conditions...
The 2 minute warm up in the am... Two blocks to my son's school and 3 miles
to the office at 40 mph or less... I'm lucky if I can get > 14 mpg!
The 8 looks good @ 40mph or 80 mph

....and it's just as sharp parked in front of a gas pump!
I'm not happy w/my mileage either, I've yet to hit 18mpg around town, but as long as it doesn't get any worse I'll be content.
I've turned my pit stops into Q and A sessions as that seems to be when everybody inquires about/admires the car, which makes me forget all about the fact that I'm filling her up - again
Sometimes you just hafta take the good w/the bad.

Personally I'd prefer getting 13mpg (which I don't) driving the RX 8 than getting 13mpg driving an SUV so I'm not complaining it's just a price to pay :p

Stuck in a love triangle
Rotary engineshave never been fuel efficient and the Rx8 is noexception to this rule. Live w/it or sell your car. Alsoas a lastresort try replacing the stock filter in your air box w/an aftermarket filter like the Green or K&N filter.
It may pissyou off that a Corvette has muchmore torque and horsepower than your Rx8 and stillgets better gas mileage than your car does - but thenagain canyou rev a Corvette to 9000 RPM?

My MPG suck at 16mpg with 70% freeway. And $2.55+ per gallon wasn't what I had in mind when I purchased my 8. Whether there are MAF or PCM calibration problems compounding the fuel efficiency issue remains to be seen - hopefully MAZDA will address such problems with newer "flashes" or parts. If they are sued, well that would be interesting to see how that affects me, resale, the EPA and the auto industry. For now I will compensate for bad mileage with tachometer "beeps" and perhaps measure my rotory efficiency in BPG (Beeps Per Gallon) :-)

I get .5 mpg better using 87 Shell, which I now average 22.45 mpg with the 'm' flash.

I hope the majority of you buyers out there considered the cost of gas before making your purchase. Although those who bought in late '03-early '04 might have somewhat of an excuse, just the fact that it is recommended premium should have at least forced you to factor in cost of fuel for at least a split second.

hmmm- I avg about 18mpg- but then again most of it is highway with some city. best I ever did was 25ish on my way to MD, all highway- didn't matter that I had the AC on and was goin on avg of 95
whatever- just remember, it's still slightly better than the older rotaries from what I'm told

The EPA is the one that rates the MPG on cars. NOT Mazda!!!
Look at the bottom left of your window sticker under the MPG stated. It says that cars that fall into this mileage catagory avg 15-20 city, and 20-28 hwy. We happen to be the low end of this avg. It is there for all to see its just that the way EPA test cars is not indicative of most peoples true driving styles. Didn't I hear that the Pirus people are not getting even near the 50mpg stated on their stickers?
Buy a beater and drive it to work, save the 8 for weekend fun

I've gotten between 19-20 on every tank for the past 25K miles no matter how I drive it. Sure, I'd like a few more MPG (who wouldn't), but it's better than my RX-7 was, and a hell of a lot more fun to drive.

Second, I try to avoid Shell because it uses such a high percentage of high-sulfer Saudi Arabian petroleum in its stocks.
BTW, did the M flash help your mileage, or did the car always have it?
Note: I am a prospective 8 owner at this point
