i think it is was battery ... you need good amount of juice for rx8, if you on original battery it might be loosing charge at cold temp. ... i would say you flood it due not sufficient amount of power from the battery.

just got my baby back and again the forum members are 100% correct...bad battery.
So for the cost of $95 i got a new batt. Dealer check the fluids and gave me the latest ECU flash and prefer some TBS and gave me a new gas cap so i'm all set to go.
Boy that drive home was really enjoyable. I took the extra 15min to take the local side roads/ back roads, a few S-Turns, hills, curves, minor traffic and got back that smile on my face...only one my Rotary powered 8 can give me.

Thanks again guys,

the 8 will be out tomorrow again warm-ups and extra precautions before I drive, just so relief that I did NOT flood her (though the service department and person who towed the car had me convinced that i flooded her )
i can safely say that most of us who have been here 3-4 years when the first 04's came out, have all gone through these problems. More than likely you will always get the best possible answer to whatever your concern is on this forum. But then again why trust what we have to say? We aren't certified mazda technicians now are we?

Good Luck with the new starter swifty, if your dealer is good they should also check for additional TBS while your car is in there

No start!
I've got an 04, with the 04 starter.. which I'm going to blame, as it was always warmed up... never abused (and has 16k miles on it)

Will be on my list of mods to do, thanks

Tis was the battery; OEM (original one from 06 when i got her) NO Flood though and they checked out everything just in case.

yea this place is fully of knowledge, (i did a search for cold starts and engine flood to make sure and most problems were either batt. starter or flooded engine) The Mazda RoadSideAssistant and tech i spoke with over the phone were sure it was flooded. Then again i should have gone with my original guesses Starter, Coils or Batt and saved some trouble and replace the Batt. myself but i got some TBS, ECU flash and a new gas cap for having Mazda look at it so it was all good.

And the follow up to everything. Went out this morning to fire her up. Fire up instantly with problems so the new Batt is good. Let her sit outside for 6-7min for warm up before driving. Keep the RPMs under 3K till she was all warmed up. Even though there is tons of salt on the backroads and pot-holes, i took them just for the curves. Another enjoyable 1hr commute thanks to the 8 But Gosh I hate the salt and Pot-holes...

Glad everything is good now, just so it doesn't happen again sometime down the road, I would look into getting a nice battery (one of the optimas) because I'm sure what Mazda put in is just the same thing you had before.

I think it's funny when people comment about how long my commute is (~ 50 mins), but I don't mind because I like to drive. I'm sure I'll like it even better when my 8 comes.

Those 50 minutes will probably seem a lot faster.
