So I'm an 8 noob...
I did it! After months and months of saving, and having seen the 2003 concept at age 13, I got my 2004 RX-8.
I saved it from an auction fate where some dealer that probably doesn't know anything about the car would have bought it and had it blow up... without conscience! I saw it online, filled out contact info and a salesman called me 6 hours later. I went to look at it the next day (friday last week).
ANY WORSE OF A TEST DRIVE?!?!?!
The RX-8 would NOT start. So the salesman went and got jumper cables, and got it started up. After a bit of waiting, we set out on the drive... a few minutes into it the car STALLS AND TURNS OFF!!! Luckily, some good hearted people stopped and jumped us back up and we drove back to the dealership where she stayed to get a new battery. I can only imagine what was going through the salesman's head when the car turned off at a BUSY INTERSECTION near the EXPRESSWAY! lmfao To top it off, one of the people that stopped to jump us asked, "Do you have a mechanic to take a look at it?" to which the salesman replied, "Oh yeah we're out on a test drive, they'll look at it right now when we get back." She said, "OH! Well that's not going so well is it?" I cracked up.
The next day (saturday the 23rd), my dad and I both went back to check it out, this time the spider webs were cleaned out of the back seat and a new battery was in... nevermind the 'new' battery was 525CCA... either way, dad took it out and everything was cool as far as that went...
SO after 6 and a half hours, I FINALLY drive the car home. I'm sure a lot of you people here know how that first drive felt. Overall, a 2004 RX-8 with 34000 miles for less than $10,000 wasn't too bad. But nothing beat the feeling of the fact that, this was my money that I worked for, for this specific purpose, to get in the drivers' seat of this car. This is my money that I'm earning, this is my car. And I'm gonna treat it the way it deserves to be.
I know there's still a lot of info I gotta read, and I think someone even called me a troll once lol... but it's all good, I got my own 8, that makes up for it. ;D Pics soon? It's silver. XD

sounds like a decent deal.
Question?
Did the car "stall out" or did you stall it trying to launch it during the initial test drive?
If it "stalled out", that may be a concern...... Keep an eye on that and bear in mind you have an 8/100K mile engine warranty so dont lose sleep over it.
Have fun with the car and let the modding begin!

Great deal....What model?...how is it equiped..A/T or M/T? Do you know it's history ...this is the time 35K miles you would normally change the plugs. All so the coils and wires would be due too if they haven't been done among other things need to be checked.

@ Renesis07: Definitely decent! XD
Stall out... It's AT, and I shifted into Neutral to try the manual controls... (I'm not exactly sure why I shifted to neutral first instead of just straight to the side??? O.o) and that's when RPM dropped to bout 500 and turned off. It wasn't a struggle or even a 'loss of compression' feel, we knew it was battery because emergency lights didn't work, there was no 'click' at the turn of the key, and no lights turned on at the turn of the key either. But after the change, so far so good. OH YEAH!!! and after the addition of a QUART OF OIL!!! and some COOLANT... lol yeah, 2 things that would normally be checked first were TERRIFYINGLY LOW! lol oh and of course the used regular unleaded fuel...
Oh and I had fun... right after those fluids were replenished, I went out of city limits, and punched it... 107mph can scare the crap outta you the first time... lol In retrospect... kinda stupid decision considering the car's shape at the time... lol
@ Easy E1: Thank you... I know that with all the excellent resources available here on this forum and with all the helpful people, taking care of her will be an awesomely labor-intensive, fun, and intuitive learning experience. XD
@ HockeyRX-8: Alright I will first thing after I get home tomorrow with a new windshield... compliments of the dealer... and a full detail of the interior and exterior... XD I'm so excited... lol I had already cleaned it, but hey, why pass up a free detail??? lol
@ pksan123: Nah you're just joshing right?!?! lol jkjk lol thanks! I really appreciate it, XD
@ Old Rotor: 2004 RX-8, basic. AT ( but I'll still try to have fun lol). Looks like the aluminum wheels... the charcoal/black interior (I love it it's so soft), uhmmm... I think it has the 6-disc changer, still trying to figure out how to load more than 1 cd... lol. No I don't know the history... just the carfax, but I don't think that really says all that much. At least not about how the previous owner treated it, but I do know I'm the 2nd one, so that's good. And yeah, I downloaded a copy of the manual, I don't care whether they did it or not, but I'm totally into doing the plugs, cables, and coil... I'd rather not mess with the coil cuz of the expense... but I dunno. I didn't see any burn marks or carbon residue near the coil, which I hope translates to the car not being one of the ones affected by the recall... O.o
But yeah, I'm totally into this car... XD

Do yourself a good dead and take it to a Mazda Dealer and have them look up the VIN # for any warranty work and TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) that were done or need to be done. Service department can do that very easily. Or if you want PM me the VIN and I can have it checked for you tomorrow.

@ZumnRx8: Lol nah don't worry, not much bubble bursting... cars are typically higher priced in this area than they are in, say, San Antonio... I paid 'under' $10000, got it for $7500. ;D
What is that? lol
@ deadphoenix52: lol I noticed, I've been looking for it online... at an affordable price, proving a bit difficult... lol
@ 9krpmrx8: lol The BEST deal around that I passed up due lack of funds, was an '05 Whitewater Pearl AT, 5000mi and absolutely NOTHING wrong with it... $12500, that was the best that it got down here. lol That was the first one I drove too.
