Thumbs down So I finally flooded it...

Ladies and gents I have officially had my first flood

Yesterday I took my car over to my pops house to install my Greddy strut bars and Agency Power pulley that arrived that morning from Vividracing. I had just installed a RP racepipe last weekend (Cat-less with res.) and my pop hadn't heard the car yet. We are all big into cars in my family, so anything I do to my car I usually swing by his house to let him check it out.

Well I originally didnt think he was home, so I parked in the beginning of the rear driveway. As I was getting tools from the garage my dad poked his head out and opened the gate.
"Pull the car up to the garage so you can work in the shade!"
"Yea, good idea" (DOH!)
So I got in the car not 2 minutes after I had shut it down, cranked it up and moved all of about 20 feet up towards the garage, and before shutting it down again reved it quite a few times, both to warm it up and to show my pop the midpipe.
"Sounds like you've got a much MEANER singer sewing machine in there now! HA!"

So I cut it off and got to work on the car.
3 hrs and change later...
I get in the car to crank it up, and nothing. It turns over, and over, and over, but no start. Not even as much as a sputter.

To make the rest of the story short, I left it to sit for a while and tryed starting it again with no sucess. Left the car at his house and took his truck for the night. Came back this morning, tryed to start it, nothing. Pulled and cleaned the spark plugs (really easy to do) and cranked the engine once with the plugs out. Then I put back in the plugs and gave it a shot. Nothing.

So the car went up on a flatbed, and is now down at the dealership. Im having them sand and paint my break hubs, fix the brake squeel, change the oil, and replace the starter/battery/spark plugs. Car should be back tomorrow night

This sucks, all I wanted to do was get my new pulley installed, and now I cant even see how it runs. Oh well, Ill get the car back soon and Ill have some other issues cleared up in the meantime.

Just thought Id share... I never thought it would happen to me, but I guess everyone is vulnerable!

It seemed like it was already warmed up too and should not have been an issue. Sorry to hear that. Let us know what happens at the dealer. Good luck.

unfortunate, but the new starter (along with the new ecu flash) should eliminate the flooding for good

Did you try the deflood procedure before hauling it off? (holding the pedal to the floor --> cuts fuel on cranking)

yeah I was gonna ask that too, did you floor the gas pedal and cranked it for a good 10 seconds before letting it off and try to start normally? I did that this past march when my car wouldn't start on a cold morning, and was able to fire it up, then i promptly drove to the dealership and asked for the starter/plug/battery TSB lol

I looked and he has a 2005--that year had the upgraded battery and starter.

Congratulations, you're not a real RX-8 owner until you've flooded the engine once.

How far/long did you drive before you got to your dad's house? I mean, the engine should not cool down in 2 mins if it was up to its normal operating temp when you got there first...

Dealership called and said it was flooded. They're changing the plugs, coils, battery, starter, and taking care of everything else I asked for. The service manager commented on how much he liked my 8 Ill have it back in 2 days, 2 1/2 at worst. I have my pops truck untill then, so its not a huge deal.
Oh well, **** happens. I used to get vapor lock on my Impala every once in a blue moon, some sort of thing. I was a little careless in not letting it warm up more after moving it, but now at least I have an excuse to get everything I wanted to get done, done.
Cant wait to see how the car feels with the new flash and pulley.

Why would you have to let the car warm up before moving it? How long did it sit there when you first pulled into the driveway? I got the impression it was less than a half hour before your dad asked you to move the car up to the shade..... it shouldn't flood then, if the car was already warmed up from driving over there in the first place.

I doubt this has anything to do with a flood. I bet his coils went. Ask the dealer what it was specifically. I bet it was the coils.

WOW! Kendall Mazda ROCKS. They called me back this morning at 9am and told me the car was ready (less than 24hrs later!). I went and picked it up, and it feels great.
Anthony, youre right. The coils were "inoperable".
The new ignition feel awsome. It starts very powerfully, and instantly.
The brakes look brand new (they painted the calipers silver also) , and the dont squeek anymore. We'll see how long that lasts though.
The entire rev range feels so much smoother and a bit more powerful with the new flash and pulley. The idle is strong and smooth, and it seems to have a tiny bit more pep in the bottem end.
All in all Im glad it happened. I got the car back in 18 hours, and it feels better than brand new, starts strong, and my brakes look great!

I was at Kendal mazda today from 9-12 getting the flash and oil change done. They gave me your car as a loaner while the work was getting done on mine. It was fun to drive and i tried not to burn to much rubber off your tires.

Hhehe just kidding, I did see your car though, it looks nice.

here's an interesting, if slightly off topic, tid-bit:

Google "engine flooding" with the quotes.

Your coils went bad all ready? How many miles do you have? That's kinda weak.
