Smoking Engine - London garage recom pls

i own a 2007 RX8, the car started smoking from under the bonnet and stalling at idle. Slilghtly decreased performance when keeping it above 2.5k rpm as to not let it stall.
No liquid has been dumped on the ground, the oil level is within normal and of clear colour.
A cold start seems to be fine.
Any ideas? Any tests i can advise him to perform for further diagnosis?

I guess my best bet is to ask rac to take it to a garage .. need something not expensive but something you can recomend to your friend

any suggestions very much appreciated thank you in advance !

Catalytic is clogged?
Take it out for a spin and get it warm, check to see if Catalytic is glowing.

Or, you could drop the cat and take a peak inside.

I don't think WCS is saying that you neglect your car, I believe he is simply saying that a catalytic converter clogging is a common problem that will very likely happen sooner or later to the OEM cat.
