Silly question: What is the parking light and how to use it?
Sorry for that silly question.
(I tried searching the forum, i don't have the manual of the car is a japan import)
Is that "parking light" thing the same as the bmws/benz'/VW/Audi which, while you park your car you turn the indicator to the left or right and the little bulbs (front/rear) from the corresponding side turns on?
I tried turning the indicator to the left/right but nothing happens.
My previous car was a VW and that feature was really handy especially when i was parking at dark places.
My question is "How to use the parking light on the 8?"
Thanks for your help

parking lights are the lights that turn on when you turn on the headlight switch to the first position. second position is parking lights and headlights.

Some countries and most of the european companies have these lights that light up so you can leave them on for hours. This is not a dumb question.
But no these lights on the 8 are not meant to leave on.

I've asked my friends in Italy about the leave-on parking lights. They said it is mainly intended for when parking along the side of the road in the dark to provide better visibility to alert other drivers that there is something there to be careful for when driving past. One of their cars (BMW I think) can have it's lights left on for 10 hours safely. I have never heard of this before this thread!

Isn't that what headlights are for?

haha those europeans are so courteous. i've never heard of that before in my life. personally i think it's a good idea if not to only protect your own investment from being hit by other cars. 10 hours on is a long time. i guess it must be on uber low power or something. i wouldn't advice doing that on the rx8 or you'll surely wake up needing a jump.

i think most street lighting is 'worse' in europe. was on the coast of france/monaco/italy this summer and so many roads outside of town arent lit at all. add that to curvaceous hilly roads and these lights seem like a great idea.

I'm not sure what you're talking about (1st position on the switch) are parking lights. I believe what you're referring to are just "daytime running lights" for increased visibility while driving.
Usually in Europe, the parking light (singular) is only on one side, and in my father's old VWs it would be dictated by which side the wheel was turned to when you park.
In our current subaru, there's a switch on top of the steering column that's a parking light switch - really got me PO'd because I accidentally knocked it on while cleaning, and had to call the dealer to figure out how to switch it off.

I had that discussion with a friend the other day... that only german cars offer this feature. Believe me as captain mercury mentioned even in France (which is the "enlighting" country ) there roads are not light as they should... Consider Cyprus that what do not even have the proper roads (don't consider lighting them :P).
Anyway what i observed on the RX8 is that when you leave the "parking lights" ON (they should name them something else :P) dashboard's lights are still on.
I believe it won't be a good idea to leave them on for hours. I feel though that a guy who knows the electrical of the car should be in position to offer that feature (Turn the indicator to one side or the other and you have some light on from that side)
Thanks
P.S: This is not my first car. My car is the first non-german car in my family
