Silly Question!!

for those who have sat in or driven the rx-8. did any of you bother to punch the horn? is the sound one of those wimpy polite "excuse me" sounds or a nice playful "watchout i am coming thru" sound or one of those "get the F@#& out of my lane!!" sounds:D :D :D

Speaking of the horn, I wanted to get a really really really loud one. Anyone done some aftermarket horn installation here ? Know where I can get a really really really loud one ? Thanks

You don't want one, you want two!

Seriously, part of the penetrating power of a good set of horns comes from the dischord of two or more separate elements. Most every good aftermarket horn kit comes with multiple elements.

This is a subject that comes up regularly in the Miata community, because little Miatas are always at risk from cellphone-distracted morons in SUV's. The general consensus is that air horns are the way to go. Several places make ready-to-install kits for the Miata, such as the Crazy red Italian, though you can buy the exact same FIAMM horns at many accessory shops and cobble up your own mounts and wiring.

Another alternative, if you want to sound like a 1970's Buick, is to go to a wrecking yard and buy a set of horns off a 1970's Buick! Mount and wire them just as you would the air horns.

You might also consider a set of matched Hella horns. These are electric, so there is NO lag from the time you press the horn button and when they sound (as can happen with air horns).

I have had a set on my 10AE Miata since the second week I owned it, and they are LOUD!

Approx. $70 at:

Just a thought...........

You can always honk the horn yourself when you get your car. What good would description be anyway.

"It made a Hooonnnnk sound"

Anyway, I want one of those ocean liner style horns.

"WAOOOOOONNNNNHH!!!"

Having seen the engine bay of Tim's car, I can testify that those horns are also HUGE.

By the way, air horn lag can be almost eliminated by keeping the connecting hoses as short as possible.

WTF kinda ludicrous answer is that! the same could and has been said about the "T" issue but people still ask. the same could and has been said about the sound of the engine and/or exhaust note, but people still ask. the description would be good because it would be nice to have an idea and since i live in an area that will not get to see, hear, touch or drive until ours get here the only way to get any info is to ask someone else for their impressions. just like people ask any other question "what's the velocity red look like?" should people who have seen it in person just answer "wait until you can look at it yourself"? what boring conversations we would all have! what if it didn't make a "Hooonnnnk" sound as you say. what if it made a vw beetle "meep meep" sound. at least it's something to talk about, instead of the "T"!

Zoom,

It is not the same as saying "what does Velocity Red look like?" because you have a choice of color.

IF you had a choice of horn type, then the question would be more valid. You will either like the horn or you won't and make changes if necessary.

I gave you a silly answer to a "silly question". I'm sorry that you took it so seriously.
