signs of a blown engine
Not running is the first clue.
If it's "dying" but not dead, running like crap, not starting, not developing power.
If you fear you did something, if it ...
... Barfed metallic parts all over the road
... castastropically detonated and took parts of the front off with it
... bled its guts out over your driveway
chances are your engine is blown.

There's a classic sign called "the paint can shaker dance of death". You'll know it when you see it. Doesn't happen to every blown engine, but the next one could be yours..........
I'm afraid to ask what prompted this thread. Hope your 8 doesn't have a blown engine. I got some questions for you though:
- What year?
- A/T or M/T
- Have you had the recalls performed?
- FI ? (turbo or SC?)
- any engine mods?

Depends on the type of "blown" engine your talking about. Water coolant line - alot of white smoke, constant refilling the radiator overflow, exhaust smells like coolant.
Blown apex seal - vibrates but after a certain rpm - 1800 - it's going fast enough that you don't notice the vibration, sounds like a helicopter (the exhaust note that is), usually breaks a motor mount as well, might not be able to hold idle
What's yours doing?
