side-view mirror coming apart

My passenger side-view mirror seems to be peeling apart at the upper edge (the edge that's higher up on and adjacent to the A column).

I tried to press it back in but that wasn't working. So I pulled it out and back more (to see if I could pull something out of its plug) but it only seemed to gradually tear apart more. Then I tried to press it back in (hoping to hear a click or something going back into its plug) but nothing happened. Seems almost like it was originally glued onto some surface underneath the mirror housing.

The separation at the top edge is only less than 1/8 of an inch but it's still not normal.

Can anyone help me out?

are you talking about the black plastic part?

I noticed that the gap widened on my friends RX8 too.
it was flush at first, now there is a gap that fits 2-3 quarters
