Showoff Suicide Doors?

Do you show off your freestyle (suicide) doors? I love doing it. Everyone's jaw drops when they see it. :D

Every chance I get!

It is a mandatory part of the RX-8 ownership contract. Along with having to mention that it has zero cylinders and a 9K redline.

Whew! I am glad to hear others do this also.
One time i was getting gas and a guy across the car island was pointing out my car to his wife and telling her " yeah, thats the car with secret doors and they open like this" and he makes an opening motion with his hands. At first she looked confused but after he explanined how they opened, her face lit up with a smile. Another time, at the same gas stop, i had to get a towel out of the back and opened the door, and left it opened, and some hot blonde with a big smile, asks me what kind of car i have. Very kewl!

Yah, I do that once in a while. Not as fun as my old mkI MR2 though. People gave you really confused looks when you opened the hood and put a bag or two of stuff in there and then walked around to the trunk and put a few more there........ hehehehe... that was a real blast.

People always think its a two door coupe, until I open the door to show them the car seat in the back. :D

Hadn't thought about the zero cylinders and 9K redline. I'll have to add that.

Hahaha, my thoughts EXACTLY! Those doors seem to get the most reaction from folks when the car isn't in motion, so why not show them off? I love it.

It's soo funny when my friends pull the seat latch and try to get to the backseat, then I just point to the suicide door handle. They always forget!

You'll even occasionally meet one who seems to be interested in a mini lecture on the Renesis engine. I still carry the dealer brochure (in the seatback pouch) and a Rotary 13B1 keychain to demonstrate.

It is fun when people see you letting full-sized adults out of the back. They can't believe there's that much room in there.

Wow! You've only opened them twice! You're missing all the fun. I wear a suit to work and carry a briefcase style bag. My stuff goes in the back seat everytime I drive it. Stop at the store on the way home...have to get my walet out of the back! I haven't even had my 8 long and the comments are racking up. Funniest was a bunch of High School kids around their monster 4WD trucks..."Good Gawd! Look at those doors!"

Comments like that seem to rack up forever. I've had mine over a year now and still get the "holy crap where did those come from" response when opening the doors. :D

As a perspective buyer one of the things I've been wondering about is: Is it difficult to get the back doors open and into the back (or even put something in the back) in a parking lot where other cars are parked a normal distance from your 8? Can you even get the back door open? if there is a car beside you?

The back doors are significantly shorter than a normal door, so you can open them fully in a lot smaller space than front doors. Of course it's never a good idea to swing any door open without looking where it's gonna go when you're in a parking lot.

I think it's easier to get into the back seat with the suicide doors. Whenever I sit in the back seat of any other car it seems like I'm about to bump my head on the "B" pillar, but the few times I've climbed into the back seat of my 8 it seems entirely intuitive. Somehow, though, my friends girlfriend is completely incapable of managing the exercise...

By the way, Sleslie, The back doors don't even stick out as far as the front doors at their first "detent" (the first notch that stick at), but you do need to have the front doors open to open/close the back doors.

I've gotten quite a few comments about "those cool little doors". People tend to peek around their cars at the gas station when I pop them, too.

I never show off my suicide doors. But I open the doors when someone needs to get in or when I need to get something. People are always putting the front seat forward to get in, and that's when I stop them and open my suicides. That's when they go "AHH" "OHH". :D

I do as much as I can. The best time was when our first child was born a couple of months ago the nurse wheeled my wife and baby outside. The nurse looked at the 8 like "where are you going to put the baby?". I popped the back door open, took 2 seconds to put the baby in, and shut the door. The nurse and other people standing around just looked amazed.

As others have noted^^^^^if you can open the front door, the rear door is no problem. But when both are open, the access from front and rear are both blocked, so maneuvering the people or groceries or whatever is a bit problematic if space is tight. Just a bit, no biggee.

It is also obligatory to note how your passengers will at least once proceed to shut the doors in the wrong order (cringe!). The back door goes THWACK against the front one
Don't tell me that hasn't happened to you about once per new passenger!
