ur gonna get flamed for not doing a search -____- which you SHOULD have down because this topic has been discussed many a times...

basically the only two i know of are the RP and the mazdaspeed short shifters and i've heard nothing but good things about them, but the MS one is kinda expensive

rp= Richard Paul = axial flow engineering. They're on the web somewhere.

I have his snick-shift short shifter (or whatever it wound up being called) and I love it. The shift **** is only slightly shorter, but throws are significantly reduced. There's a bunch of reviews around here somewhere.

A simple search for "Short Shifter" found dozens of threads about the RP Short Shifter.

So, yes, to answer your question there is one. Most people go with the RP short shifter. PM "Richard Paul" to see how to get one.

I have the RP short shifter and I LOVE IT. Easy to install (20 min.) and it is indeed much shorter than the stock shifter. It really *clinks* into gears...very "notchy" for lack of a better word.

It also comes with a lifetime warranty if I'm not mistaken...Richard Paul seems like a top notch guy and makes a great product.

Yes...there are lotsa threads on the RP SS, but this thread with pix in the DIY forum is great since it shows you how to install it https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-rp-afe-short-shifter-install-53914/

Or - just get a VooDoo **** (the ones for a Miata fix the 8). It will shorten the shift by quite a bit and is a 2 minute install.

http://www.teamvoodoo.com/Voodoo/*****.html

You DO have to watch out for RPS* in the summer and the winter if you go VooDoo. I have the 2" (Magnum) in both cars - and had a VooDoo in my 01 S, C5 'vette, SVT Contour, and '96M Miata - so you could say I love them :D

Genesis thanks alot for the diy page. If i end up with this shifter im definitely keeping that by my side for the install. The voodoo looks pretty sick but i think i want entirely new shifter and not just the ****. I saw an s2000 with a voodoo shifter a couple a months ago and it looked pretty sick. Thnks for the links guys.

have you been in the car before??? it comes WITH a short shifter

now change it to a ball style shift **** and it is even shorter

the MS and richard paul unit lower it but not much (although I do want the RP unit :D cause I like having my hand as low as possible...wouldn't mind shifting the gears with my hand if I could :D)

i know the car alrdy has a pretty short shifter... for being stock. Dont get me wrong, its far superior to other cars shifters and definitely feels better than the 350z, but shortening the throw even more would be incredible.

TM, you are aware that Richards SnickShifter is a short THROW shifter.....it is barely 1/4" lower than the standard shifter?

And in response to your last post Officerfarva, yes, the resulting shorter throw IS incredible :D .

Richard is too sleepy and pre-occupied (drunk) to come up with a name for it......so I named it for him . It's in my sig, so it must be true :D .

Do a search, there are some kits available. I've found its not really needed though.

To be honest, switching out the shift ***** can give you a shorter feel on the shifter.

Hey gomez, jw if after u intsalled the rp if it felt harder to put it in reverse? Cus for me at least, it feels like u really gotta slam it down and over alot more than with the stock shifter.

There is manual 'adjustment' needed for at least two variables. Take the thing back out (soon you can do it in your sleep ), notice the key tab on the side. Campher the top edge for easier access to reverse, take a layer off the side tab face to allow 5 & 6 to be engaged more easily. Go easy and get it right. Maybe not all exhibit a need for adjustment, but I had to do both.

Nevertheless, SMALL INCONVIENIENCE for the superior action :D meaning the improvement is major over the stiff & clunky OEM Mazda shifter. Mazda should hire RP to give them a clue.
