Short ramp intake and engine light HELP

Hi guys, sorry for asking a question that might have been discussed prolly many times before.

please help me....

I recently installed a short ramp intake in my RX8 09. The engine light came on and the idling was rough. I would say it was not stable as before. It was like choking and about to stall. How do I fix this problem? I heard that I need to drive the car for a while so the computer can pick up the new setup. Is that true? Will the car build up more carbon etc....Im not a mechanic..just panic when i see the englight came on..please help me...thx.

did you install the metal mesh screens back into your RAM air intake?
RX8's MAF is very sensitive about turbulence. if your new intake doesnt have the screen to "smooth" out the air, the engine will idle rough.
its always been said, put either air intakes that are designed for RX8 or just leave the stock in cuz it doesnt make any difference to the power. might actually worse if its sucking warm/hot air.
good intakes such as Racingbeat and AEM doesnt have this problem.
rotary engines are not designed to use those cheapo intakes you can put on a Honda Civic.

Apparently, a short-bus intake.

I'd put the stock intake back on ASAP. Ramps don't belong under the hood.

put the stock intake back on. there's a reason why aftermarket intakes make hardly any power improvement. The stock design is very well done.

I hope by custom built you don't mean "bought some aluminum piping and hacksawed it with a 90 degree bend out of the throttle body.
