Short Block Warranty Questions

Hi guys - new member here and I've got some questions I wasn't able to find answers to by searching.

Is there typically any out of pocket cost for owners when getting the short block replaced under warranty - like some items that are not reusable that have to be taken off to R&R the short block.

If you have a Series I car and get the short block replaced does the Mazda reman include any Series II improvements (additional oil injectors)?

Thank you,

Andrew

You may wish to read my new owner's thread (in my sig). It does answer that question, so I am guessing you haven't yet.

In short though, if you are under the powertrain warranty (5yr 60,000 miles) there should NEVER be additional costs. If you are out of that warranty but within the engine core warranty (8yr 100,000 miles) then you might have additional costs, and it is all dependant on what the dealer feels should be covered. Most dealers will end up leaving you with a bill of ~$300-$500, though some are far lower, including not charging anything additional at all.

There is no cross compatibility between series 1 and series 2 engines, with the work to make them compatible being rather extensive and expensive. You will get a reman of the same design that you had to begin with.

wear items such as the clutch, belts, coils, wires and spark plugs are not going to be covered under the warranty.

the good news is that they need to be removed from the old engine and put on the new engine anyways, so labor is free.
