I have lucky number 1111 out of 1357 total. 513 Autos and 844 Manuals

Now this is interesting...in another thread someone said that there's more Auto 8s sold than Manuals. I called bullshit. This just helps to back up what I was thinking...

But, if you really want to know your Shinka's number, I can help you out. I can't give you a certificate though

Ummm...there's more than 13,570 8s in the US. I'm not sure where you got your #s from...

well the entire building was closed and production halted From the fire in December until March 22nd. that is slightly more than slowed. sort of STOPPED id say.

I was using the term SLOWED in a referance to delayed. They still met production numbers from everything I can find on the net. I don't believe the fire is what caused there to be on 1357 Shinkas instead of the 2100 or whatever.

Out of the 2150 Shinka's made, how do I know what number mine is?
Have any other owners wondered this? I would have thought that since it was a limited number they would have said.

Thank you!
Thanks for asking.

And... Sigma, thanks for the link.

I'm # 382

I should have made that clearer -- I meant '05 sales. They'll be somewhere in the neighborhood of 13-15,000 units.

Now this is interesting...in another thread someone said that there's more Auto 8s sold than Manuals. I called bullshit. This just helps to back up what I was thinking...
It's not fair to consider the production of a more expensive special-edition RX-8 as representative of the production of regular RX-8s. Just looking at standing inventories across the country shows that allocation is roughly 50/50 Manual/Automatic.

Thanks for the link! Mine is a pretty low number: #267, born 11-23-2004. It was the 6th car made on the 6th day of production.

Yeah yeah, you all think you're so special... I still say you drive purple cars... :P

Seriously though, is there a list like that for all RX-8's? I want to see where mine is.

Sorry, your just not special, maybe you should have bought a "purple" car which just so happens to sometimes be black, sometimes brown, and only ocassionally purple. :p

Question Shinka Owners... what's your Serial #?

Hey owners... how do you find out what number your Shinka is? Since it's one of only 842 in the entire universe... is there a number on the VIN that'll tell you which order yours came off the assembly line? Just curious...

We must quest to find the very first off-the-production-line Shinka! THAT is a special car...

I agree with you they are "purple" :D I personally think they are born when you bring them home. Until then they are still in Mazda's Womb.

Hey all, I'm not trying to infuse any paranioa in this thread, but by knowing your VIN number many people have access and can cross reference the original purchaser's Name/Address during time of registration. Just wanted to let that be known before saying I'm # so-and-so on a public forum.

Uh… I'm not trying to infuse paranoia in you, but, well… oh hell, I'm just gonna come out and say it—your VIN nunber is stamped, BIG, BOLD and clear as day, on the base of your dashboard. There's even a special cut-out in the windshield to make it even EASIER to read! And you know what? No one cares!! Hundreds of people (who, unlike the people here, live near you) can read it every day, if they want to. But guess what? They don't! Even with a car as popular and in demand as the 8!!! (And to everyone who "blurs" out their plate in photos of their car, well… I'm not gonna explain how, but thousands of people can read your plate every week! I'm not making this up!)

VIN: JM1FE173850152438
PLATE: CYC6292 (NY)

(Oooooh!!! How will I ever get to sleep tonight???? )

Wow dude... Chill...

First of all, yes, you are right! This information is readily available if desired. Two counter points - Not many people have the ***** to go up to someone's car and write down their VIN and then go look up their information. I guarantee some people are much more likely to misuse the information they find here vs. what they can find out in the real world. In this day and age of identity theft, I'd keep as much private as possible and hope for the best.

I get funny looks nearly everyday when I get to work and park because I write down the license plate numbers of the cars on either side of me and in front of me, unless I park where the wall is in front of me, and I then will take a picture of those vehicles (also showing part of my car in the picture, and then a close-up of each vehicle. That way I have documented who was parked near me in case there is something wrong with my car when I get off work. It is staff parking only, so when I get there, most people are leaving and not so many coming in since I work swing shift. The odds of different vehicles being next to me are very slim and when I get off my car is usually with nobody on either side. I then inspect my car before I leave.

I know, I'm crazy.

Hey Hoss... it's a simple fact I'm pointing out to those who don't know. Some don't want to type out their entire Name and Address in a public forum, and that in reality is what some of you are doing by advertising your VIN#. Do what you want, just passing some info along for those that don't know so they can make an informed decision, not to smartasses that don't care either way.

Oh.. and I met tons of RX-8 owners.. 30-40 give or take but I choose when to make my personal information public.

BTW... there was a thread like this one a long time ago that the Mods deleted for the facts I stated above.

Yep, we did, and for those exact reasons- it's a hell of a lot easier to grab VIN #s when they're neatly listed in rows in a thread on the internet than to sneak up to someone's car and write it down. But to each his own. If you want to advertise your personal information on the internet, that's your prerogative.
