Shift **** Specs... Please Help!!

I am looking to buy a replacement shift **** for my 8. The only thing I am a tad hesitant about is the fitting because I know some ***** fit some cars and some don't. Does anyone know if universal shift ***** fit 8?? The one I am looking at says 15 mm inner diameter, but I don't know where that is a measurement of?? If anyone could help or has an aftermarket **** that was universal... let me know.. Thanks!!

I did search for a while, looking in many "shift ****" and "specs" threads, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

If adapters (those plastic things) come with the ****, then will it work?? or do i need a 12.5 mm straight and that's all?

The adappters are usually pretty low quality. When you install them, the **** has the tendency to continually vibrate itself loose (not to the point of coming off in your hands, but enough to have an annoying rattle). I would try and spend a little extra money on one of the correctly sized 12.5 mm ***** for reliability.

just my personal thought on the ****:

When I got my car, I thought the Triangular design of the **** was a bit odd and that it would feel uncomfortable while driving, but I later found out how comfortable it was. Its a real sexy looking ****. I personally wouldnt change it unless i HAD to. ... but thats just me.

I would stay away from those universal fitting ones. Even though they have different adapter sizes, sometimes they will not fit snugly and will move a little. I would just find one that screws on.

I want a new shift **** too.... what kind were you looking at?

To be honest, I only had started looking on ebay to see what options were out there. It's not the first thing I want to get done, but eventually. I saw a really cool red and black carbon fiber one I liked (I forget where I saw it), but something with red, black, & silver would look awesome with my red/black interior.

Razo ***** utilize adapters but they are threaded and screw onto the shaft. I have an RA68A and the weight and shape are perfect for an RX-8.

I have the Kartboy **** on my Evo after searching for months for one I liked. I'm VERY happy with it and it should fit the RX-8 as well (check around to be sure though).

Ours is actually a solid hunk of aluminum tapped for the thread pitch of the RX-8 shifter, so it screws on perfectly. If you want an aluminum ball-type shifter, it'll work perfectly for you. I find it better than OEM due to the fact you can comfortably use the shifter properly (with your hand on top instead of a pistol grip), but to each their own. And of course I might be a little biased .

Phil

Agreed. This **** looks perfect. Screws on perfectly and feels great. Only thing I wish it was a little heavier like the stock ****.

I'll try to explain this the best I can. Does anyone know if there is an adapter for shift ***** that is metal. It would be used to screw into a universal shift ****. That way we can make a 12.5 mm shift **** out of any ****. Does this exist? If not does anybody know someone who can do this? I'm sure there would be a lot of interest in this product.

Allright!!!! What is up with the 12.5mm????? I tried for a long time to find one, till i realized it is a 10mm. Where does the 12.5mm come from? Do I have a different tranny? Or are you all talking about a different part? I just affix a 10mm nut in any shift **** and it works great.

To answer the original question, the OEM post dimensions are 10mm x 1.25mm thread pitch. That's probably where the "12.5" is coming from.
