I have been lurking for a long time but decided to start posting.

I saw the thread about Georgia emissions, but wanted to start a more general conversation. Anyone here ever have a problem with RX-8 emissions testing in other states?

I have to test my 8 this year in Oregon and I'm nervous. I took my wife's Sentra to get tested last weekend and they started and stopped the car three times. I'm worried that that might try to do that with the 8 and flood my engine.

Also the thread about the computer in Georgia not having the correct information for the 8 and thus causing it to fail has got me worried.

Anyone have a hard time getting their car tested? Any things I should keep an eye on? For one thing, I'll tell the techs they only get to stop and start my car once and that's it.

 

If the engine is warmed up, stopping and restarting it is not an issue.

 

Really? I heard that stopping, starting, and stopping again without driving it or letting it run for a couple minutes at least would flood the engine. So I have been really careful about not shutting the car off without driving it for at least a couple of minutes whenever I start it up.

 

That is when the engine is cold. I took mine out to the river to do some photo shots. The engine was good and hot when we got there. I stopped and restarted the engine several times moving the car for different angles. No flooding at all.

Sweet... another flooding thread hidden in the disguise of an emissions question. Owner since August 2003, no floods even without doing any "fancy tricks" to try and prevent it.

 

and by too long, you mean a few hours. the 8 (or at least mine) stays warm enough to move the needle even after a few hours.

 

check out the regional forum for you. chances are there's a thread about this and you can find out more about things local to you. i know there's one in the northeast forum and people have shared experiences.

 

I was slightly confused for a minute because we get four-year registrations here on new vehicles, until I realized you must have purchased your car in 2003. Another sign my day has been way too long!!!

 

I actually bought the car a few months ago. I bought it used. I don't mean to turn this into a flooding thread. Having been super careful, I have never flooded the car once. And unlike a lot of threads that I see on here about people complaining, I love my 8.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had run into any other problems with emissions testing or government agencies not understanding the rotary.

 

Welcome to the forum! I have have a 2004 as well that I bought towards the beginning of 2006. I will not have to get it tested for another year though.

Like others have said as long as your car is warm you should not have any issues with flooding.
