Service / Shop Manual

hi all:

I'm not new to rotary but I am new to this version and I am trying to track down the RX-8 service manual.

On all my previous cars I was able to find a service manual on-line.

I have tried a search but no good hits.

First off I'm looking for all the options from Mazda to eBay.

I'm hoping to find some place I can just download it. Let me explain....I do very little work on my car so I'm really only looking to spend little or nothing if I can. If it works out I do anticipate I will buy the real one, but I'm hoping someone can fill me in on where I can find it.

Thanks in advance,
PM if necessary

But isn't that copyright violation if someone posted it? It's like having one track off a CD free to download because you only wanted to ... oh wait, most people do that anyways.. nm

You can go to http://www.mazdatechinfo.com and browse the service manual for a fee. That way, you can pretty much cherry-pick the chapters you are interested in or even get the whole thing if you have the means to do that.

As I mentioned this in another thread, for those who do not have these means or the patience, just send a private message to Maniac and you might just get what you're looking for :p

IMHO $20 for one day makes the $100 cost of the service manual look very reasonable.

I think $90 is reasonable for the shop manual. And more useful than bits and pieces of an online manual or even one downloaded in its entirety. I'd much rather have the book-printed version where It can be kicked around, gotten oil onto, kept in the trunk and live in a shop environment instead of trying to work with a laptop or having to print sections for every repair or maintenance. It also makes a nice item to have tucked in the trunk when you sell.

Remember, the $90 manual only contains the service highlights, not all the wiring diagrams and body mechanicals.

I did not buy the 'Service Highlights' manual, but the 'Service Manual'. There is a difference.

I also bought the wiring diagram as a seperate part #.

I will also be jumpin' on the $90 Service Manual -- rxeightr is right -- it's the real deal (big, thick honker of a book).

The wiring diagrams are separate (can't remeber how much), but pretty much every other service procedure will be included in the SM.

There is a separate "service highlights" manual that I've seen for about $40-50, IIRC.

I got my manual a few days ago. I didn't really care about the $100+. It's waaaaay better than guessing.

If you go online and pay the 20$, what form (pdf/html/xml) are the manual chapters in ? I wouldn't want to pay 20$ just to read it for 1 day...

In the printed version, is there any of the body material in there? Info on how to take apart the interior/exterior, etc. I'm tired of guessing when I want to pull things apart... Also interested in Boarder's question about what format things are in online... Just to see how feasible it would be to d'load the whole thing in a day.

Everything you're asking is detailed in the factory shop manual.

It IS possible to download everything in a day - it was done before.

That is what you get - HTML.

You can rip it, but you have to have the right HTML tools/skills.
I've got the whole thing right here on CD.

BTW - the printed factory shop manual doesn't contain the body guide in addition to the wiring diagrams. Those are seperate as well, but are available online.

The wiring schematics are a separate book, but my workshop manual has a large section - "Body & Accessories". Looks like a couple hundred pages and is the biggest section besides the Engine section. Is there yet another manual strictly for the body?

Both the wiring diagram and workshop manual are available from Trussville Mazda at decent price. I think they're worth the price and easier to work with than electronic versions. Call me old-fashioned

Having an electronic copy could be a convenient adjunct if it allowed searching. Are the pertinent files in .pdf format (i.e. searchable text) or just a collection of page-scan images?

I'm seeing the workshop manuals on CD on ebay for like $15. What is up with those? They look like they have all the info and they sure as hell aren't $100. PDF form and indexed. My guess is that they are illegal copies. Should I stay clear?

"Item location: Plaza

Mazda RX-8 Workshop Manual by Mazda

This CD is for back up purpose only, all rights are subject to the repective company"

Hmmm, I wonder where this Plaza USA is at? And does this guy think his little disclaimer is gonna save his **** when one of the manufacturers catch his butt selling his manuals on everything from cars to motorcycles that he "misappropriated" ?

bringing back a dead thread...

anyway i'm aware that there are "service highlight" manual, "service workshop" manual, and "wiring diagrams" manuals. I'm just wondering which one would be useful if i want to install a stereo system? eg taking interior apart, wiring stuff, etc.

anyone knows?
