I assume he's talking about the Redline and GXP versions that are due out soon. Also, if you haven't seen a Solstice in person yet I'd hold off on calling it butt ugly. I was skeptical of the frontend from the pics but after seeing it in person it's a pretty stunning car IMO.

 

I have seen both and I agree the front end of the Solstice is just too goofy. Looks like the love spawn of my Braun electric shaver. The Sky, while less ambitious in styling, is more to my liking. Also: IMO just comparing exterior/interior styling, I like the Miata over both the GMs.
But the upcoming S/C versions of the Sky/Solstice will definitely be worth a test drive. the regular versions are in the area of 2900#; if they can keep the weight of the Redline versions at <3000# they'll retain the nimble handling and have quite a performance bargain on their hands.
