Selling the 8 for a cosworth

The time has come. The car's too expensive and I'm barely keeping up with it. Plus my dream car is legal for importation this year. I'm not selling it because it chugs the gas, or that it's under powered. It's a damn sexy car, but in order for me not to loose any money on this thing, it's gotta go. Payments are too much, insurance is too expensive for someone my age even with 4 doors.

Anyways here's what I'm importing this summer. They're sub 2800lbs with cosworth engines comfortably making 350hp at all 4 wheels. I've wanted one for the last 5 yrs and the day is comming.

Not seeing how it's going to better restructure your finances but if you want that go for it.

The Cosworth Escort is one of my all time favorite cars. I would love to own one of these, Conratulations no explanation required.
Heres a link to some good information.

I don't follow the logic on getting rid of a car because you can't afford it, then buying another car new. If your finances are that bad, you shouldn't be in the market.

It would be used. They stopped making the car in 1996.

ah, so it would be cheap then. I retract my previous statement. Good luck on the sale of the RX-8.

Cool car, but.... With all the costs associated with importing and shipping etc. won't it still cost a pretty penny??

the Cossie was once a great car. But a bit natty old in today's standards. I grew out of these a while back. Just like I did with those now importable R32 Skylines. The available EVO and STis will run circles around the Cossie and still has reliability and warranty to boot.

If he can't insure the RX8, good luck with and evo or sti. When I was a wee lad of 23 my evo cost me around 6 grand a year to insure with a reasonably clean driving record (a couple speeding tickets). I'm now 26, and the 8 costs me around 1k a year to insure. Can't even imagine what this poor guy would have to pay if he picked up an evo or sti!

I used to see these often back in England, is this where you're importing it from? Just wondered about it being RHD, that would get to me after a bit, plus it's still an Escort!

I've always wanted an RS200, get one of those and then when you can't afford it anymore sell it to me Not a lot of people here will understand it, but the Cossie is a very cool car. If it ends up being considerably cheaper than a used STI and your RX-8 then it makes sense. Have fun!

RS200 was my dream car for the longest time, never saw one on the road but did see a few at Oulton Park, my uncle used to have an RS2000 custom (mk2 Escort) which was pretty cool too.

It was combination of things. But if you want to point at one incident for ending group B it would be Toivonen and Cresto dying in their S4 at the Tour de Corse.

With less than 2k, you can have a cosworth putting down 350hp and in a sub 2800lbs car, the subies and evos will have a hard time keeping up. Stock for stock, the escort will fall behind. But when it comes down to price per hp, the cossie comes out on top by far. And reliablitly is not an issue. Just don't over boost on the turbo because with a 3bar map sensor it's easy to go boost happy and fry your turbo. And when it comes down to cost over time, you'll be spending way more in the long run with an sti or an evo, even if you blow up a tranny on the cossie or need an engine rebuild.

What most people do for mods right off the bat with a big turbo model is
intake
exaust
3bar map sensor (26psi)
bosch 803 fuel injectors
group A head gasket
rs500 intercooler
makes upwards of 350 proven hp, no tuning with the weber marelli ecu in big turbo models

The joy of having a 15 yr old car is I don't have to get full coverage like I do on the 8. It will cut my payment's down to 1/3 of what I'm paying now a month.

I love the 8 and would keep it if there was more money comming in to pay for everything. But like I said, I've always wanted an Escort Cosworth and now that they're legal, the time has come to part with the 8.
